Unrivaled domination of James Thorp in KF2, podium for Davide Fore (KZ2) and Zdenek Groman (KF2), brilliant performances of Kevin Ceccon and Aaro Vainio in KF3… the Maranello team has perfectly managed this 5th race of WSK 2008 which has taken place in Sarno, at the foothills of Vesuvius.
The Maranello brand cares for the satisfaction of all their pilots, both official and private ones. At every race, at national and international level, everything works to welcome pilots and create the best conditions for them, especially to put the best possible materials at their disposal, including carefully selected mechanics and engines. Given all this, of course, it is up to the pilot to make the most out of his material on the racetrack.
In Italy, on the International circuit of Naples, some drivers have performed better than others, but this is expectable in a meeting like that of WSK, with almost 200 registered entrants.
Generally racing in KF1, in this Winning Series Karting, Davide Fore has chosen to race in KZ2 to start preparing for the World Cup. The Italian has not fallen short of expectations and has battled with the best for the whole race. At the wheel of his Maranello-Maxter, Fore has climbed up to the fourth place in pre-final before stepping up to the third step of the podium in the final.
"The material has given me full satisfaction in Sarno, explained the five-time world champion. We have found some interesting technical solutions with a view to the world Cup, which is encouraging".
His team mate Alessandro Piccini has been less successful with a withdrawal in the final. Even though his progression from 19th to 8th in pre-final had been encouraging and the Italian was thinking of rushing on. However Picccini does not discourages easily and he knows that his Maranello-TM chassis can take him to the second or third step of the final WSK podium. The answer in early October in Spain at the final of the Series.
It is in KF2 that the Maranello brand has been most successful. From the timed practices to the final, James Thorp has literally moved up a notch against his competitors. For some time Thorp has been equipped with a Maxter engine which has been working in perfect harmony with his Maranello chassis. Evidence of the British driver’s domination is his almost five-second edge in the final.
By winning the pre-final as well as the final with the best lap every time, Thorp has achieved the third place of the WSK. Maranello had a large majority on the podium, since the Czech Zdenek Groman has been able to reaffirm is very high performance level. With his recovery from the 18th to the 6th place in the final, also the Italian "Giaguaro Nero" has done quite well.
In KF3, the colours of Maranello were in the top positions. Kevin Ceccon and Aaro Vainio have always been very close on Sunday, and finished 5th and 6th respectively in the pre-final as well as in the final.
Ceccon, the current leader of the Open Masters, can still hope to step on to the final WSK podium. The Maranello team was also impressed with the spectacular recoveries of Eduard Cheever and Joni Wiman, who have gained almost 20 places in the final phase.
Less fortunate on Sunday, the Russian Russe Zimin Maxim and the British Russell Danzey (JRP team) have made their best lap each in a heat anyway.
Comments by Armando Filini, in charge of Maranello Team
"In the team, they have all done their best for the pilots to obtain good results.
I am quite satisfied to see that our chassis performed very good at the beginning of the season, when the weather was cold and the racetracks had little or no grip, and that they are still performing just as well now with heat and grip, as was the case in Sarno, for this WSK race.
Many pilots race within our team or in satellite teams and it is very important for them to be able to rely on their chassis".
