Auf dem Hunsrückring in Hahn startete Mario Farnbacher am vergangenen Wochenende (16./17.08.08) zum Finale der Deutschen Challenger Kartmeisterschaft 2008. Für den Lichtenauer ging es nach seinem zweiten Rang beim 4. Lauf in Liedolsheim noch um eine Top-3-Platzierung in der Meisterschaft.
Und der Lichtenauer schlug sich wacker: Im Zeittraining fuhr er die drittschnellste Runde im 35-köpfigen Feld. Diese Position konnte er in den Vorläufen mit den Plätzen zwei und drei problemlos verteidigen und nahm das Sprintrennen am Sonntag aus der zweiten Startreihe in Angriff.
Diese Ausgangssituation konnte der Pilot aus dem Stall von KSM Motorsport auch im Sprint bestätigen. Lange Zeit hing er auf Platz vier fest, konnte sich aber mit einem taktischen Manöver in der letzten Runde noch auf Position drei verbessern.
Im Finale gelang "Super Mario" dann der Durchbruch. Gleich am Start nutzte er ein Gerangel der beiden vor ihm platzierten Piloten aus und übernahm die Spitze. Diese sollte er bis ins Ziel nicht mehr abgeben müssen. Was so spielerisch von außen aussah, war jedoch harte Arbeit, denn der Zweitplatzierte übte permanenten Druck auf den Youngster aus.
"Ich habe stets versucht meinen Verfolger auf Sicherheitsabstand zu halten. Die letzten Runden waren aber wirklich anstrengend. Ich hatte bestimmt einen Puls von 180", freute sich Mario nach dem Rennen. Mit seinem Sieg gelang dem Tonykart-Piloten zudem der Sprung unter die Top Drei der Meisterschaft.
"Die letzten Rennen der Saison liefen immer besser, daher freue ich mich total über den Sieg zum Abschluss. Ich habe lange darauf warten müssen. Hätten wir zum Saisonstart nicht so viel Pech gehabt, wäre sicherlich mehr drin gewesen, aber ich bin trotzdem sehr zufrieden.
