Nyck De Vries always at the front

Nyck De Vries left France and the circuit of Angerville with a second place in WSK (Winning Karting Series) provisional ranking, but also with a lot of regrets, since the race final result was not up to his real performance level.

Karting is a hard and demanding sport, but when you add to that a series of unfortunate events, then it gets terribly frustrating. From satisfaction to expectation, from hope to delusion, Nyck De Vries experienced the full range of feelings.

This Dutch pilot was very fast during free practice and he ranked second in the round preceding timed qualifying. The circuit of Angerville, which hosted the World Championship in 2006, is a hard one but Nyck felt perfectly at ease driving his Zanardi-XTR. Unfortunately, a problem materialized during timed qualifying.

"My times went better and better, but then the race management showed me the black flag" said Nyck. "Officials confused my number with a false one and I was forced to stop. Suddenly, I had to content myself with 27th position, while I wanted to be among the top five".

This situation became even more complicated when he was pushed out of the track, at the start of the first qualifying heat. He restarted very determined, so much so that he climbed many positions and, most of all, he got the fastest lap. Nyck continued his progression during the other three heats, showing his extreme competitiveness, as well as that of his equipment.

In the pre-final, he made a great start and soon climbed from 18th to 9th position. Then, it seemed that this young and talented pilot could come through to take the lead of the group. Unfortunately, luck was not on Nyck De Vries’s side and his clutch bell exploded ! "Despite my disappointment and my 34th place in the final starting grid, I could have still obtained good results in WSK. At mid-race, I was 14th, but I clashed with another pilot and lost positions in the ranking again!

Despite this disappointing week-end, I am second ex æquo in the Championship ranking, just 4 points away from the leader and I am determined to do my best in next WSK race in Italy, in May, and conquer again my leadership position".

Highlights

- WSK: this international series attracts the best karting pilots, in the most beautiful circuits in Europe.

- KF3: first step of international categories, for Junior pilots from 13 to 15 years. KF3 is the ideal formula to gain access to top karting categories and to car races.

- Second ex æquo: it is the place occupied by Nyck De Vries in WSK provisional ranking after the first two meetings and his victory in March in Muro Leccese, the best reward for his dominance in the Italian race.

- German Championship: this is next Nyck De Vries’s objective, in order to win the Championship of Europe 2008. This Dutch pilot will try to win in Kerpen, on the circuit that witnessed Michaël Schumacher’s karting debut.

Incredible ! The officials ordered Nyck to stop during the qualification, because they read a wrong number (184 instead of 104) on its kart... which was exactly the same as in La Conca !
