Champions parade at the WSK International Series in Zuera

Long WSK season has been concluded. It happened in Zuera, Spain on the same brand new circuit that the WSK International Series had inaugurated last season. The new champions have now been crowned:

Roman Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) and Dutch Nick De Vries (Zanardi-Parilla-Dunlop) respectively achieved KF2 and KF3 title, whereas Sauro Cesetti from Ascoli (Birel-TM-Bridgestone) and Marco Ardigò from Brescia (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) were successful in leading the KF1 and KZ2 rankings already in the previous rounds.

What happened on the circuit of Zuera was a real challenge among giants. Camponeschi who had to recover well 16 points from both leaders Aniello Smarrazzo (FA Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) and Jack Harvey (Birel-Parilla-Bridgestone) to wrap up the title, managing to win Pre-Final and take the lead in Final as well, moved this way into an early lead in no time.

But Smarrazzo taking advantage of the drawl among the drivers ahead of him, managed to close the gap up to second place shortly thereafter. He therefore got now a position that would have assured him the title.

The last laps were however fatal to the Neapolitan driver who in close challenge against both English Oliver Rowland (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) and French William Benedetti (Kosmic-Vortex-Bridgestone) that succeeded in catching up with him, went off track along with Benedetti due to a touch during the race. Thus Camponeschi safely winning over Rowland and Luis Villalba (PCR-TM-Bridgestone) had a free hand for the achievement of the title.

Previous expectations have been fulfilled at Zuera weekend. Championship’s leader Brandon Maisano (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop), being away from the ultimate Spanish round, was beaten by Nick De Vries who managed to recover as many as 28 points over the contestant.

Double victory achieved by that Dutch young driver enabled him an extraordinary recovery in spite of a considerable competitiveness shown by Italian Ignazio D’Agosto, from Bari (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop), that starting in the first row and with the sole aim of winning, lost several positions afterwards.

In Final, D’Agosto went down to 6th place, giving this way both Spanish Gerard Barrabeig (FA Kart-Vortex-Dunlop) and Swedish Hans Grenhagen (Energy-TM-Dunlop) a clear run to mount the podium along with De Vries.

Czech Libor Toman (Birel-Parilla-Bridgestone) intends to imposes himself as the new KF1 star and that’s just what he succeeded in doing in Zuera where dominated Pre-Final and Final, despite the attacks on the last laps by an extraordinary Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG-Maxter-Bridgestone).

A close challenge between them two characterised the entire race with a thrilling constant change of positions that ultimately enabled a radiant Toman to win at the finishing post once for all. Alessandro Bressan from Treviso (Kosmic-Vortex-Bridgestone) instead improved his position up to third place.

Dreezen wins the challenge in KZ2.

CRG-Maxter family challenge between the team-mates Rick Drezeen and Jonathan Thonon has ended in Drezeen’s favour that achieved both win in the Final and second place in the championship’s ranking. The two Belgian drivers led a lonely race and apart from each other, whereas French Manuel Renaudie (Gillard-SGM-Vega) gained a successful third place.

EuroCup final rankings.

The chase for Eurocup, a ranking for teams in the relative classes, has been concluded in Zuera as well. Birel Motorsport prevailed in KF1 whereas Tony Kart Racing Team, having already KZ2 win in his pocket, achieved also KF2 in Spain. Finally Intrepid France, despite his absence in the final round, won KF3.
