BRDA awarded new British Rallycross Championship contract

The British Rallycross Drivers Association (BRDA) has been awarded a new contract by the MSA to organise the MSA British Rallycross Championship. BRDA, which has organised the championship since 2003, has been awarded a new three-year agreement covering 2007, 2008 and 2009.

"On behalf of our members, our own organising team and those clubs we work with to deliver a successful British championship as wel as our commercial partners, I am delighted that the BRDA has been successful in bidding for a new contract to run the British Rallycross Championship on behalf of the MSA," said BRDA chairman John Horton. "This is a significant vote of confidence in our collective abilities and long term arrangements like this will provide us with the stability to plan the development of the championship."

The renewal of the contract to organise the MSA British Rallycross Championship (BRC) follows the BRDA’s recent commercial agreement with Kumho which will supply control tyres and be the BRC’s title sponsor for three years commencing with the 2007 series which starts at Lydden on Easter Monday (April 9).

The opening round of the championship features the Tonhire.com 40th Anniversary Rallycross which includes a Classic Rallycross category as well as static displays of classic competition cars. Star drivers and celebrities from the first 40 years of Rallycross have been invited to attend the event.

The 2007 Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship will be run over eight rounds, all of which will be televised and broadcast on British and European channels. All rounds of this year’s BRC will also be listed on the FIA calendar, enabling European competitors to take part.

The supporting programme at BRC events includes the Bill Gwynne Rallyschool International Junior Rallycross Championship and the BTRDA Clubman’s Rallycross Championship, the latter appearing only at the seven events on the British mainland.
