Larry ten Voorde (Overdrive Racing by Huber) has made a perfect start to the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland season: At the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, the Dutchman won the race on Sunday ahead of Jaap van Lagen (NL/Förch Racing) and Porsche-Junior Jaxon Evans (NZ/Team Project 1 – JBR).

At the first race of the season on Saturday, ten Voorde beat his Swedish teammate Henric Skoog and Berkay Besler (TR/Car Collection Motorsport). “I’ve been working hard all winter for this season-opening round. It’s simply great to be rewarded in this way. The setup of the vehicle was chosen so that I could pull clear of the field in the first half of the race,” said ten Voorde.

In sunshine and temperatures of 12 degrees Celsius, 31 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racers rolled to the grid as part of the DTM support programme. Ten Voorde converted pole position into a lead but was unable to pull away from the field immediately due to an early safety car phase. At the restart, the 22-year-old demonstrated his experience by defending his front position and gradually extended his advantage on the 4.574-kilometre racetrack lap by lap.

As a consequence, van Lagen was unable to put any serious pressure on his compatriot. The Förch driver crossed the finish in second place after 16 laps 0.6 seconds behind ten Voorde. “My start was super and decisive for second place. In the last laps I was able to reduce the gap a little, but over the weekend Larry ten Voorde was faster than me,” said van Lagen.

Porsche Junior Evans experienced some fierce competition. The 22-year-old took up the race from second on the grid, but was unable to defend himself from van Lagen after the start. Over the laps, a fight developed for third place between Evans, Skoog and Luca Rettenbacher (A/MSG/HRT Motorsport). The young New Zealander successfully fended off his rival’s attacks to score the third podium step. “At first I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t defend second place, but the competition in this series is pretty high, so third feels good,” said Evans. Fourth place went to Igor Walilko (Overdrive Racing by Huber) from Poland.

Porsche Junior Julien Andlauer (BWT Lechner Racing) treated spectators to a spirited performance on the storied German racetrack. The Frenchman took up the race from eleventh on the grid before launching a pursuit through the field. At the flag, the 19-year-old had ploughed his way up to fifth. “After the start I was nudged by another car and lost several positions. After that it was a really great race with a lot of overtaking. With a better qualifying result, maybe I could have ended up on the podium,” stated Andlauer. The positions behind him were occupied by Rettenbacher, Besler and Dylan Pereira (L/Lechner Racing Team).

In the amateur classification, Stefan Rehkopf (Huber Racing) celebrated a double victory. After clinching first place on Saturday, the German went on to win again on Sunday. Second place went to Carlos Rivas (L/Black Falcon Team Textar) ahead of his German teammate Sören Spreng.

Visiting as special guests were Alexander Pollich (CEO at Porsche Deutschland GmbH) and Bastian Schramm (Director Marketing Porsche Deutschland GmbH). Both gentlemen presented the trophies on the podium.

After the season-opening weekend, ten Voorde leads the championship with 50 points. Behind him on second place sits Skoog (27 points) and Besler (25 points) in third. Besler is also the best rookie. After the double-header weekend, the 20-year-old has earned 45 points in this class. After his double victory in the amateur classification, Rehkopf leads with 50 points. In the team classification, Overdrive Racing by Huber ranks first (83 points).

For the next double-header, the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland heads to the Czech Republic from 17 to 19 May. Races three and four of the one-make cup will be contested at the Autodrom Most as support to the ADAC GT Masters.
