London’s foremost Historic Automobile dealership Fiskens enjoyed the stunning Le Mans Classic weekend, with Managing Director Gregor Fisken on form behind the wheel of two beautifully prepared racing cars.

Fisken, who was last seen at La Sarthe in 2007 at the wheel of a GT1 Aston Martin DBR9 in the modern day 24 Hour race, returned to pilot a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB/C and a 1969 Chevron B8. Gregor was invited to drive by the car’s owner Joe Bamford and shared driving duties with Joe and legendary Le Mans racer Alain de Cadenet, who finished third overall at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1976 and has raced at La Sarthe ten times.

The weekend saw cars split into six ‘Grids’ decided by their age and contest three 45-minute races. Entered in ‘Grid 5’ for cars built between 1966-71, the two litre Chevron ran consistently in the top ten throughout the weekend, competing strongly against the big five litre Lola T70s and Porsche 917s. The trio’s best result came in their final race when, having been forced to start at the back due to an exhaust problem in the previous race, they stormed through the 72-car field to take 10th overall.

The Ferrari 275 GTB/C was entered into ‘Grid 4’ for machinery built between 1962 and 1965 and ran very quickly throughout. All three drivers set fast, consistent lap times, with Gregor’s 5min 01sec a new lap record for the car. The car ran as high as seventh overall, ahead of the Ford GT40s and fighting with the AC Cobras, and took 14th and 11th placed finishes in the first two races, before retiring from race 3 with an oil leak.

Meanwhile Fisken derived as much pleasure from seeing the Jaguar D-Type, a car supplied by Fiskens, of Gavin Pickering, Roger Earl and Tony Pickering take ‘Grid 2’ victory in the final race. A significant number of Grid 2’s cars, and many more throughout the event, were also machines supplied by Fiskens.

"As a company we really enjoy tracking the progress of our cars once we’ve found them a new home," said Fisken. "Tony, Gavin and Roger drove exceptionally well and I was delighted for them. It was superb to see so many of our clients on the grid and enjoying their cars in such wonderful surroundings.

"The Le Mans Classic is such a great weekend," he continued. "We were blessed by extraordinary weather, entries from all around the world and a lot of very competitive racing. This is the biggest historic race weekend in the world and just shows the incredible growth of historic motorsport. The atmosphere was awesome and it was a huge thrill for me to drive these beautiful historic cars at La Sarthe.

"I must thank Sir Anthony Bamford, Alain and Gelscoe Motorsport who prepared the cars, and also Patrick Peter and the ACO for their superb organisation of the event. They could not have done a better job and this event is not-to-be-missed in 2010."

Fiskens next major event will be the Silverstone Classic on the 25th, 26th and 27th July where they will support the Woodcote Trophy.
