The Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE has completed a two-part training programme in the Federal Republic of Sudan to assist an FIA member Club with the development of a national motor sport infrastructure.


On July 14-15 a three-man team from the ATCUAE’s Motorsport Knowledge Institute conducted an Officials Safety Training course in Khartoum for more than 40 officials and volunteers from the Sudanese Automobile & Touring Club (SATC).


Forming the core of the SATC’s motorsport officials club, the group will now start planning for their first motorsport event, a speed test taking place later in the year. They will also assist Sudan’s Ministry of Tourism in the staging of a ‘Discover Sudan’ event to promote the country, mobility and sport.


Training carried out in Khartoum covered a broad range of motorsport event organisation subjects, with an emphasis on safety for officials, competitors and spectators, a big challenge in the African countries.


During the visit, MKI Director Ronan Morgan highlighted the economic and social impact of motorsport for a country in meetings with Sudanese government authorities, including the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, as well as Police. Road safety issues were also discussed.


The MKI had carried out an initial training programme for the SATC, which represents the FIA in Sudan, in May.


The training programme is funded in part by the FIA Foundation’s Motor Sport Safety Development Fund. The Fund was set up in 2008 as a charitable fund to help progress and improve safety, training and education in motor sport worldwide. The FIA Institute manages the programmes of the Fund on behalf of the FIA Foundation. This includes the Officials Safety Training Programme under which this activity is being conducted.


The  MKI, the training and education division of the ATCUAE, was established by its President, Dr. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, following the organisation's elevation to the status of FIA Institute approved Regional Training Provider (RTP) in December 2011.
