- 120 Bürgermeister europäischer und arabischer Städte werden teilnehmen
Die Stadt Dubai wird am 10. und 11. Februar 2008 Gastgeber des dritten europäisch-arabischen Städteforums sein. An dem Forum unter der Schirmherrschaft von Scheich Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, stellvertretender regierender Bürgermeister von Dubai, Minister für Industrie und Finanzwesen und Vorsitzender der Stadtverwaltung Dubais, werden 120 Bürgermeister europäischer und arabischer Städte teilnehmen.
Ing. Hussain Nasser Lootah, stellvertretender Generaldirektor der Stadtverwaltung Dubais, gab an, dass das Motto der Veranstaltung "Neue Dialoge für Projekte" sein wird.
Er fügte hinzu: "Mit diesem Forum wollen wir regionale Partnerschaften und die Zusammenarbeit von Städten, Regionen und örtlichen Verwaltungen etablieren, deren Kultur, Ressourcen und Interessen sich gegenseitig ergänzen."
Auf dem Forum werden eine Reihe wichtiger Themen diskutiert, die alle Städte der Welt betreffen, wie z. B. die effektive Leitung und Verwaltung. Im Zentrum der Gespräche stehe die Erörterung von Mitteln und Wegen zur Leistungsverbesserung und erfolgreichen Fertigstellung von Anlagen durch die Annahme effektiver Richtlinien.
Zu diesen gehören: Dezentralisierung, wohlüberlegter Einsatz von Ressourcen und Geldern für Bauvorhaben, angemessene Behandlung des Problems der Abwanderung von ländlichen in städtische Gebiete, optimale Verwaltung neuer Gemeinden, Ausarbeitung einer gesetzlichen Grundlage und eines Systems zur Regelung des Eigentums von Immobilien und die Entstehung von Slums.
Auf dem Forum werden ausserdem Fragen des öffentlichen Nahverkehrs und der Stadtplanung erörtert und es werden Themen des Umweltschutzes und der Wasserversorgung besprochen. Weitere Themen sind Finanzierungsmodelle für Gemeinschaftsvorhaben für Projekte im Bereich Kultur und Kulturerbe.
Zahlreiche arabische und europäische Prominente, wie zum Beispiel Bürgermeister von Städten und Vorsitzende von Stadtverwaltungen und örtlichen Gremien, werden an dem Forum teilnehmen.
Es werden Einladungen an sechzig europäische und sechzig arabische Bürgermeister gesandt sowie an eine Reihe angesehener Persönlichkeiten internationaler Organisationen und Institutionen, wie Ban Ki Moon, Generalsekretär der Vereinten Nationen, Amr Mousa, Generalsekretär der Arabischen Liga, AbdulRahman Al Atiyya, Generalsekretär des Golfkooperationsrats und weitere Prominente.
Von arabischer Seite wird das Forum von der Arab Towns Organisation (ATO), dem Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI) und der Stadtverwaltung Dubais organisiert.
Die Organisatoren von europäischer Seite sind das Standing Committee for the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership of Local Authorities and Regions (COPPEM), der Rat der Gemeinden und Regionen Europas (RGRE) und der Congress of Local and Regional Authorities at the Council of Europe (CLARE). Etisalat, die Telekommunikationsgesellschaft der VAE, ist der offizielle Sponsor der Veranstaltung.
