HANNOVER MESSE 2009, 20 to 24 April

04.11.2008: HANNOVER MESSE 2009, 20 to 24 April

Effective networking and knowledge transfer at HANNOVER MESSE 2009

* Interdisciplinary special displays focus on innovative energy-saving production technologies and processes

* The WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE, the central technology forum at HANNOVER MESSE, provides a unique forum for discussing the key energy issues

* 100,000 euros for high tech: HERMES AWARD is the world's most lucrative technology prize

HANNOVER MESSE 2009 will once again rank not only as the world's most important show, but also as the world's biggest technology congress. The 13 leading trade fairs that make up HANNOVER MESSE 2009 will be augmented by around 90 special events, 1,800 lectures, plus numerous interdisciplinary forums. These events will provide the ideal platform for networking and knowledge transfer.

Top decision-makers from industry, commerce and politics will come together to swap ideas and experiences at the various congresses, discussion forums and special displays. Last but not least, numerous seminars and workshops will allow industry professionals to get to grips with the latest technologies.

Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes - systems for the future

Following on from its successful premiere at HANNOVER MESSE 2008, "Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes" will make a further important contribution to global climate protection. Patroned by the Federal Ministry of Industry and Technology (BMWi), this special display will focus on products and processes that save energy - during the manufacturing process as well as during practical application. The spotlight will also be on solutions designed to optimize energy consumption.

Located prominently at HANNOVER MESSE 2009, "Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes" will provide a central platform targeted at a broad spectrum of industrial sectors of industry. Hence exhibitors will have the opportunity to position themselves in the marketplace.

Decision-makers, engineers, production managers and procurement specialists from the public and private sectors will flock to "Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes" in order to view state-of-the-art solutions. This is a classic "win-win" situation: increased energy efficiency not only benefits company balance sheets but also has a very positive impact on the environment.

WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE puts the spotlight on sustainable energy supplies

Coping with increased energy demand is one of the greatest challenges facing us today. We need to explore new avenues in energy generation and distribution. The 5th WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE will centre on sustainable energy and the intelligent networking of energy supply systems.

For the fourth time the program will also include the presentation of the Energy Efficiency Award to an innovative industrial or commercial enterprise in recognition of a truly ground-breaking energy-saving project.

Due to the consistently positive response on the part of visitors and exhibitors, the 2009 WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE will retain its prime location in Hall 27 at HANNOVER MESSE.

HERMES AWARD - the prestigious industrial technology prize

The HANNOVER MESSE 2009 line-up will once again include the presentation of the HERMES AWARD. Worth a total of €100,000 to the winners, the HERMES AWARD is the world's most lucrative industrial technology prize. The award will be presented at the official opening ceremony of HANNOVER MESSE 2009 on the evening of Sunday, 19 April, 2008.

The competition is open to products and solutions (hardware, software, components) that are on show for the first time at HANNOVER MESSE and constitute a genuine technological breakthrough. The submissions must have already entered industrial application - or have at least undergone industrial trials. To stand a chance of winning the HERMES AWARD, the candidates need to break new ground and make a major contribution to fulfilling economic and social needs.

Robotation Academy - getting to grips with the latest robot technology

HANNOVER MESSE is a place of learning. A prime example is the "Robotation Academy", a collaborative venture between Volkswagen Coaching and Deutsche Messe. Carsten Stumpf, Marketing Manager of Kawasaki Robotics GmbH, explains the benefits of the Robotation Academy for exhibitors and visitors: "This is the second time that Kawasaki Robotics GmbH has taken part in this VW Coaching event.

The goal is to familiarize the visiting public with robot technology and to remove the obstacles for new adopters. We are glad to contribute and raise awareness of automation among small and medium-sized enterprises. In this way we can help to stabilize Germany's industrial base."

Visitors have the option of booking separate modules centring on theoretical aspects as well as practical applications. They can discover which robots are suitable for which applications, how to control robots, and what factors need to be borne in mind when deploying robots for laser cutting, welding and assembly operations.

"tech transfer - Gateway2Innovation" - marketplace for innovative ideas

New ideas are the driving force behind technological progress. Professional structures and strategic ideas management play a pivotal role in transferring these new ideas to practical market application. For the past ten years "tech transfer - Gateway2Innovation" in Hall 2 has dedicated itself to bringing together supply and demand in this area.

This event is the ideal place to establish complementary fields of interest and exploit potential synergies. "tech transfer - Gateway2Innovation" is firmly embedded in "Research & Technology - the Innovations Market for R&D".

Universities and research establishments use this platform to present the latest research findings to decision-makers and engineering specialists from all sectors of industry. This will unlock enormous potential benefits for the visitors and exhibitors at HANNOVER MESSE 2009.

Global networks and international trends at the Global Business Forum

The Global Business Forum (GBF) is a further well-established institution at HANNOVER MESSE. In 2009 - as in past years - it will encourage and support companies that are planning to venture into foreign markets. Import/export regulations and cross-border enterprise startups will be high up on the agenda.

The special GBF concept (comprising an exhibition, a conference and various matchmaking events) will provide an excellent springboard for SMEs that want to extend their international reach. HANNOVER MESSE 2009 is expected to attract no fewer than 3,000 small and medium-sized enterprises from all over Europe.

WoMenPower - forum for equal opportunities and family management

Taking place for the sixth time at HANNOVER MESSE, the one-day "WoMenPower" event will be open to attendees of both sexes. The various workshops and discussion groups will examine key topics such as "Women and technology", "Equal job opportunities" and "Careers and children" - topics that are of direct relevance to men as well as women.

The high-calibre contributors to the WoMenPower Congress will also discuss the latest labour-market trends, career perspectives and success strategies. In addition, they will analyze alternative corporate/managerial cultures and evaluate the innovative concepts developed by the business community with the aim of reconciling the conflicting demands of jobs, careers and families. The congress will be accompanied by an opinion survey which will deliver valuable insights into current social trends.

RoboCup German Open - high-tech footballers and rescue robots

The RoboCup German Open - the collaborative venture between Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS) and Deutsche Messe - will be taking place for the third time at HANNOVER MESSE. As was the case in 2008 the RoboCup German Open will be an integral part of the new display category "Mobile Robots & Autonomous Systems".

Dr. Ansgar Bredenfeld, Chairman of the National RoboCup Committee: "Hannover is once again playing host to top robotics teams from all over the globe." Although most people associate the "RoboCup" with smart soccer-playing robots, the competition has a lot more to offer. "The competition not only boasts robot soccer played in various leagues, but also features contests for service robots and rescue robots,"

Ansgar Bredenfeld explains. Fascinating new disciplines such as RoboCupRescue and RoboCup@Home will demonstrate the potential of robots in disaster relief situations and in private homes. The RoboCup German Open complements and augments "TectoYou", the special program of events and information for young people at HANNOVER MESSE. Scientists, students, technology enthusiasts, soccer fans and 'ordinary' young people will gather here to explore the fascinating potential of modern industrial technology.

Looking ahead to the future -TectoYou points the way

The objective of "TectoYou" is to inform young persons in the age group 15 to 21 about technical training opportunities and university courses. Making its third successful appearance at HANNOVER MESSE, "TectoYou" will provide extensive scope for informative talks with experts from all sectors of industry. In combination with the initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas" HANNOVER MESSE 2009 will offer ideal conditions for information and communication.

A key feature of "TectoYou" is the opportunity to take guided tours and to establish direct contact with the exhibitors. The groups will be accompanied all day by specially trained personnel, who will liaise closely with the pupils' teaching staff. This will ensure optimum access to information, as well as sustained benefits for all concerned.
