   * Successful debut: the new trade fair Wind
    * Keynote theme of the show: energy efficiency in industrial processes

The outlook for HANNOVER MESSE 2009 is distinctly positive. Despite the current economic crisis, the world's leading technology event continues to perform well in a difficult marketplace. Running from 20 to 24 April 2009, this year's HANNOVER MESSE features new content such as the brand-new trade fair Wind, another round of the World Energy Dialogue with a very full program, and numerous special displays highlighting topical issues in automation, power transmission and control, subcontracting and R&D.

And new exhibitor registrations are still coming in. With around 6,000 exhibitors and more than 200,000 square metres of stand bookings, it now looks as if this year's show will be similar in size to its recent predecessors. Federal German President Horst Köhler will formally open HANNOVER MESSE 2009 on 19 April, the day before the show opens its doors to the public.

"It is precisely when economic conditions are difficult that HANNOVER MESSE comes into its own", says Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch, Chairman of the Board of Deutsche Messe AG. "It provides an overview of various branches of industry that work together to make progress possible. At the same time it focuses our attention on issues that are more important than ever at times of crisis - issues such as energy efficiency and technological leadership."

HANNOVER MESSE 2009 brings together 13 flagship trade fairs under one roof. The dominant themes are industrial automation, energy technologies, power transmission and control, mobility, subcontracting, new technologies for the future, and youth training. This broad range of themes generates plenty of valuable synergies for visiting professionals.

One example is the new leading international trade fair Wind. The market-leading players in the wind energy industry will be presenting an array of plant, components and services in Hall 27. But in addition to that the theme of wind energy will also figure in a number of other trade shows in the HANNOVER MESSE line-up. Principal among these is MDA - Motion, Drive & Automation. Companies exhibiting mechanical drive systems at this show are located right next door to Wind in Hall 27.

Other suppliers exhibiting under other rubrics - industrial automation, subcontracting, surface technology or research and development - will also be taking up the theme of wind power. In this way the dividing line between different areas of specialization becomes blurred, while at the same time each branch of industry gets the opportunity to display its products in a setting that also highlights their many possible applications. "HANNOVER MESSE shows how important it is for different sectors of industry to work together, because that's the key to their future survival", says Dr. von Fritsch.

Focus on energy efficiency

The No.1 theme of this year's HANNOVER MESSE is energy efficiency. Every sector of industry now faces the challenge of using resources more efficiently and developing energy-efficient products and processes. Consequently, this theme is to be found in virtually every presentation by exhibiting firms at HANNOVER MESSE 2009. And it is the focus of attention at the special display "Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes" in Hall 26.

Here the main emphasis is on concrete applications, solutions and consultancy. The exhibits will include reference projects and a model production plant that exemplifies energy efficiency in action. Also on offer are a visitor guide on the theme of energy efficiency, and a special "Energy Efficiency Tour" of the grounds by bus.

Partner Country Korea

The Republic of Korea is the official Partner Country at HANNOVER MESSE 2009. In areas such as mechanical and plant engineering, the car industry and information technology, this East Asian powerhouse is already a global leader. The country is the EU's fourth largest trading partner, and is keen on strengthening its position in Europe still further.

Negotiations on a free trade agreement are currently under way, and recent years have seen extensive cooperation between Korea and Europe on research and development. Korea will be exhibiting in almost every display category at HANNOVER MESSE 2009. So far nearly 200 companies have booked stand space, amounting to some 6,000 square metres in total.

Extensive supporting program: opportunity to experience modern technologies at first hand

More than 1,000 events such as congresses, discussion forums, seminars and workshops, featuring an impressive line-up of high-calibre speakers, will afford visitors to HANNOVER MESSE 2009 an opportunity to engage in depth with the issues that will affect our future. Here they'll be able to benefit from the knowledge and experience of decision-makers in business, government and industry - a chance not just to see state-of-the-art technologies, but to get to grips with them and understand them.

Once again, one of the most high-profile events will be the World Energy Dialogue, which this year has "Security of energy supply" as its theme. Among the senior figures attending this international congress in 2009 are Germany's Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Russian Energy Minister Sergei Schmatko, and the EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs.

Careers initiative TectoYou

The careers initiative TectoYou is back for the third successive year at HANNOVER MESSE. The purpose of the initiative is to show schoolchildren in years 11 to 13 what is available to them in terms of industrial apprenticeships and study courses. At HANNOVER MESSE young people get a chance - perhaps for the first time - to experience technology up close, and to talk directly to engineers and personnel officers working in industry.

Guided themed tours of selected exhibition stands at the show are a key component of TectoYou. TectoYou is a joint project organized by HANNOVER MESSE and the initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas", together with numerous partner firms and industry associations. Its patron is Dr. Annette Schavan, Federal Minister for Education and Research.

The HANNOVER MESSE portfolio for 2009 includes all the following flagship trade shows from last year: INTERKAMA+, Factory Automation, Industrial Building Automation, Digital Factory, Subcontracting, Energy, Power Plant Technology, MicroTechnology and Research & Technology.

Back on the program again this year are three more trade shows that are staged on a two-yearly cycle, namely Motion, Drive & Automation, SurfaceTechnology and ComVac. And joining the line-up for the first time is the new trade fair Wind, which will likewise take place once every two years under the HANNOVER MESSE branding.
