3. Lauf Le Mans Series, Spa (09. bis 11. Mai 2008)
Der 3. Lauf der hochklassigen Le Mans Series wurde in Belgien ausgetragen. Bei den 1.000 Kilometer auf der Traditionsrennstrecke von Spa-Francorchamps ging Pierre Ehret wieder mit Teamkollege Pierre Kaffer in einem Ferrari F430 GTC an den Start der GT2-Klasse.
Als Tabellenführer reiste das Farnbacher-Racing Duo nach Spa und konnte schon beim Freien Training zeigen, dass man zu den Favoriten um den Sieg gehört. Nachdem man in den ersten beiden Trainingssitzungen am Freitag die Abstimmung für den 450 PS starken Ferrari vorgenommen hatte, platzierte man das Auto beim 3. Freien Training auf Platz zwei!
Beim Qualifying war man ebenfalls sehr gut unterwegs und fuhr mit einer Zeit von 2:22,314 Minuten auf dem 7.003 Kilometer langen Kurs in Startreihe zwei! „Das Auto lag sehr gut und mit Startplatz drei konnten wir sehr zufrieden sein", erklärte Pierre Ehret.
Und auch der Beginn des 1.000 Kilometer-Rennens vor 35.000 Fans auf der Ardennen-Achterbahn mit ihren ultraschnellen Kurven und Hochgeschwindigkeitsgeraden verlief sehr gut.
Man lag zu Beginn immer in der Spitzengruppe und führt das starke Feld mit vielen Profirennfahrern auch zeitweise an. Doch nach etwas mehr als vier Stunden war das Rennen dann beendet. Nur knapp eine Stunde vor Ende des Laufes gab es einen Ausfall durch eine gebrochene Rad-Aufnahme!
Pierre Ehret nach dem Rennen: „Wir waren uns im Team darüber klar, dass wir heute auf jedenfall einen Platz auf dem Podium hätten erreichen können. Natürlich ist es eine große Enttäuschung, wenn man dann kurz vor Schluß ausfällt."
Und weiter: „Die Reifen haben sehr viel pickup aufgenommen. Immer wenn wir einem schnelleren Prototypen haben Platz machen müssen, kamen wir von der Ideallinie ab und die Reifen sammelten den auf der Strecke liegenden Dreck auf. Das konnte den Fahrer fast zwei Sekunden pro Runde kosten. Selbst nach mehreren Runden waren die Reifen immer noch nicht freigefahren und das kostete immens viel Zeit. Wir müssen versuchen in Zukunft nicht mehr von der Ideallinie abzuweichen."
Nun gibt es erst einmal eine kleinere Sommerpause, bevor es dann am Nürburgring weiter geht. Auf dem Eifel-Kurs wird vom 15. bis 17. August 2008 das 4. Rennwochenende ausgetragen. „Wir freuen uns auf dar Rennen in Deutschland und hoffen auf etwas mehr Glück", so abschließend Pierre Ehret.
