First poles for Maxime Martin 20/10/07 - Estoril Qualifying Maxime Martin (Boutsen Energy Racing) has earned pole position for both of this weekend's Eurocup Mégane Trophy races. The young Belgian driver will share the front row with Mike Verschuur (Equipe Verschuur) in Race 1 and Pedro Petiz (Tech 1 Racing) in Race 2. For once, all the drivers made it out onto the track in the first session, keen to take advantage of conditions at their coolest. Ten minutes in, Pedro Petiz (Tech 1 Racing) took the lead, with Giuseppe Ciro (Oregon Team) and Cesar Campaniço (Equipe Verschuur) just behind. The last few minutes of the first session saw several drivers move up into the leading group, notably Sébastien Dhouailly (Tech 1 Racing), Ludovic Badey and Matthieu Cheruy (TDS). Dimitri Enjalbert snatched second spot, less than a tenth of a second behind Petiz, with two minutes remaining. Fabrice Walfisch (Team Lompech Sport) was another driver to enter the battle for pole, but Maxime Martin (Boutsen Energy Racing) ultimately settled things in style, as the only driver to break the 1'44'' barrier. The Belgian finished the first session with the two fastest times, ahead of Enjalbert, Petiz, Walfisch, Dhouailly, Rossi, Badey, Ciro, Campaniço and Cheruy. When action resumed for the second session, Martin and Rossi opted to stay in the pits. Their rivals, meanwhile, continued to battle it out on the track, Mike Verschuur ousting Dimitri Enjalbert from second spot and getting within two tenths of a second of Martin's time. With five minutes to go, Ludovic Badey made a mistake that saw the rest of the session come under full yellow, meaning that all lap times were neutralised. In the last three minutes, Pedro Petiz tried to regain the upper hand, but ended up in the gravel trap for his troubles, spraying a fair few kilos of gravel onto the track in the process! The first four rows on the grid for Race 1 will thus be occupied by Martin, Verschuur, Enjalbert, Petiz, Walfisch, Dhouailly, Meichtry and Rossi. In the list of second-fastest times, Martin again came out on top, ahead of Petiz, Meichtry, Verschuur, Enjalbert, Walfisch, Rossi and Dhouailly.
