Ex-champ in car search

Three-times British Rallycross Champion Pat Doran has seven days to find a car to drive in the opening round of the Monster Energy MSA British Rallycross Championship, in association with MaKTraK because delays mean that his new Citroën DS3 Supercar will not be ready to race at Lydden Hill on March 24.

Father of Rallycross Superstar Liam Doran, Pat Doran won British titles in 2005, ’09 and ’10 and is now in the position of trying to borrow a car from his son in order to be on the grid at Lydden. "The best chance I've got to race at Lydden next week is to use the Citroën C4 that Liam will drive in America later this year," said Doran Snr.

"The problem with that is that the car is not ready to race and was not scheduled to be complete for another couple of weeks. The team is busy and changing plans at this stage is not easy so it's a case of trying to sort everything out and hoping that the car can be ready. I want to be there because the British championship looks like being very good again this year, there are ten Supercars entered for the first event and I really don't want to start the year with a non-score."

The new DS3 that Pat Doran will drive in the British championship is being built by Autopoint Specialist Engineering and is now not expected to be ready until the Knockhill event on May 12, which means that whatever car Doran races in this weekend's British championship round will almost certainly also be used in the British round of the European championship – the Monster Energy International Rallycross Festival – at Lydden Hill over Easter weekend.

SHM in gear

Steve Hill Motorsport has entered its unique Mitsubishi Evo X in a full Monster Energy MSA British Rallycross Championship season and will strengthen its association with new championship associate sponsor MaKTraK which will supply the team with transmission systems as a continuation of the extensive testing and development programme it has conducted over the past two years.

MaKTraK has become a leading supplier of sequential transmissions within the British and European championships. Designed and manufactured in the UK, MaKTraK gearboxes are conceived as being a step beyond a 'drop-in' gear kit and combine strength and reliability with a very smooth (zero over-travel) gear shift.

Steve Hill Motorsport, which specialises in Mitsubishi's Evo model, also supplies MaKTraK gearboxes among a full range of products and services for motor sport, track day and road use.

Pusey realises Supercar ambition

Former Supernational racer Gary Pusey (Great Missenden) will achieve a life long ambition when he races a Supercar in the Monster Energy MSA British Rallycross Championship, in association with MaKTraK.

After selling the turbocharged Peugeot 206 he raced in there Supernational class and spending the 2011 season on the sidelines, Pusey had plotted a return with a Peugeot Supercar, but changed plans when the ex-Gareth Wood Subaru Impreza became available.

Pusey has fitted new body panels and a new engine to the car in readiness for the 2012 season and recently completed a successful test run in the car in preparation for the first round of the championship at Lydden on March 24.

Clubmans interest soars after Top Gear

Interest in the Clubmans Rallycross Championship that appears at most British championship events this year has soared after the entry-point series was featured on Top Gear last weekend. Aimed at newcomers to motor sport and those competing on a small budget, the Clubmans Rallycross Championship places the emphasis on low cost motor sport for fun. More details about the series and how to take part are available here.

Former Junior Rallycross champion Paige Bellerby has moved up to the Swift Sport Championship and will take over the car used by her father, Dave, to win the title last year. The 16-year-old was Junior champion in 2010 and third in the series last year.

Irish Rallycross Championship event winner Ian O'Connell has entered Saturday's opening round of the British championship in his Supernational Lotus Exige. O'Connell won the last two rounds of the IRC at Mondello Park this winter.
