JAUER (GERMANY), 14th September 2008 –
Valentin Teillet (KTM) from France and Jeffrey Herlings (Suzuki) from Netherlands are EMX2 and EMX-85 European Champions 2008. They confirmed their titles with the victories at the last event in Jauer.
The best EMX2 riders at the last event were riders, which are also in the EMX2 Championship Classification top three. The European Champion Valentin Teillet, EMX2 Vice-European Champion Nikolaj Larsen (Suzuki) and Loic Rombaut (Kawasaki) conquered the last podium in the season. Teillet was riding with the gold number at his racing T-shirt. Although he came to Jauer as the new Champion, he did not come just to compete.
He came to win the last event. Teillet was self-confident. In the Qualifying Practice he had third time, but already then he said that the victory is the only thing that satisfies him. The 18-years old French is very satisfied with the season.
Loic Larrieu (Kawasaki) was one of the three candidates for the EMX2 Championship podium. His dreams disappeared after the first race, because he did not finish it. Russian rider Aleksandr Tonkov (Suzuki) did the great result in the first race, when he was second. At the end he finished fourth. Fifth was French rider Cedric Soubeyras (Yamaha).
It was his first year in the EMX2 European Championship and he did not know what to expect. Teillet explained: »At the beginning it was not easy for me. During the winter time I was working hard, but I did not know if I am good prepared because I did not know much about other riders. Already at the first event I noticed that I was working in the right way and I was satisfied with my preparations.« It was also the first time, that he was a part of the team.
Teillet: »I am very glad that I got the opportunity to be in the Jacky Martens Team. It was my first experience to work with the team and also the first time that I had my own mechanic. I am really very satisfied with everything what they had been gave to me.« The young French also said, that the team gave him usefull experiences for competing in the MX2 GP: »I think the team gave me so much that I am able to go to compete in the MX2 GP the next season. I had the best team in the EMX2 European Championship that I could have. Our Team Manager Jacky Martens has really the rich experiences and he was sharing them with us.«
RIDER'S COMMENTS – EMX2 European Championship:
VALENTIN TEILLET - The EMX2 European Champion, winner of the event: »I am happy that I finished the Championship with the victory. For me this victory is very important. Now I really gave the proof that I am the European Champion. My second start was better, but in general my both races were perfect. I am very happy that I won two times.
For me the best race in the season and also one of my best ever was the first race in Slovenia, where I won with the big advantage. At the other side there is also one bad memory. It is the event in Alhama de Murcia. There I lost many points and almost also the Championship leadership. Now the Championship has finished, I hope I will have the successful preparations during the winter.«
NIKOLAJ LARSEN - 2nd in the EMX2 European Championship, 3rd at the event: »It was the very successful weekend for me, I had the big support of my family and fans, who came to see me at the final event. In the past I had been competing in Germany but not here in Jauer. It was a good race today.
The settings of my bike were suitable for this race track. I am very satisfied with my season I conquered my first podium in Spain and I am glad that it was not also my last. My worst race was in San Severino, but now it is not so important, I am the Vice-European Champion. For the next season my plans are not clear, yet.«
LOIC ROMBAUT - 3rd in the EMX2 European Championship, 2nd at the event: »The race track was good prepared, I found myself very well here in Jauer. I was competing here for the first time. At the beginning of the season it was difficult for me. After the first good result, it was better and now I finished the Championship on the second position, it is perfect. The most successful event for me was in Alhama de Murcia in Spain.
There I got my first podium and then it was much easier to continue the season. I do not have any bad memories, it is normal that you can not make top results the whole season.«
The EMX2 European Championship standings:
1. Valentin Teillet (KTM, France), 2. Nikolaj Larsen (Suzuki, Denmark), 3. Loic Rombaut (Kawasaki, France), 4. Loic Larrieu (Kawasaki, France), 5. Ceriel Klein Kromhof (KTM, Netherlands), 6. Cedric Soubeyras (Yamaha, France), 7. Arnaud Tonus (KTM, Switzerland), 8. Christophe Charlier (Yamaha, France), 9. Kenny Van Dueren (KTM, Belgium), 10. Herjan Brakke (Honda, Netherlands)
EMX-85 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
The new EMX-85 European Champion Jeffrey Herlings was successful, too. Also he was decided to finish the Championship with the victory. The 14-years old rider did not have anything to lose and he won with the reliable riding. Second was another rider from Netherlands, Donny Bastemeijer (Honda), third was French rider Dylan Ferrandis (Yamaha). The EMX-85 European Champion is Donny Bastemeijer, the third is David Ciucci (KTM) from Italy. The best home German riders is Dennis Ullrich (KTM), who finished the Championship on the fourth position.
The European Champion Herlings said: »The season was very successful for me. It was not easy. I had also some decreases. But now at the end I am satisfied that the European Title is mine. Competing at the same event together with MX3 and EMX2 riders is a great experience, you can learn a lot.
It is also better because we have some more time during both races. The other good thing is, that there are more spectators. I am competing in the German Championship, at the moment I am on the second position, but I have never been here before. I have to say that I have the big support of my family, what is important.«
The EMX-85 Championship standings:
1. Jeffrey Herlings (Suzuki, Netherlands), 2. Donny Bastemeijer (Honda, Netherlands), 3. David Ciucci (KTM, Italy), 4. Dennis Ulrich (KTM, Germany), 5. Nicola Recchia (KTM, Italy), 6.
