MX2 Red Plate owner Tyla Rattray put down some excellent laps to take victory in Saturday's Qualifying Race One and is all set to further extend his lead in the world championship standings in Sunday's GP of Czech Republic.
"Belgium wasn't that good for me so today was a bit of a reward," the South African rider said. "This is a track that requires a lot of concentration and effort. I put in some good laps today and I think Steven Sword will be one of the riders to beat tomorrow. He rode well today and tomorrow is going to be an interesting race. I'm very positive. My bike is very good and its one of the fastest out of the gates," Rattray said.
Goncalves wins Qualifying Two
Glory in the second qualifier went Tyla's Red Bull KTM factor stable mate Rui Goncalves whose victory was well earned as he continues to improve his form in his first season as a factory rider. He said his good results last weekend were a confidence boost and another good result would be reward for the team that has unfailingly supporting throughout the season. "I got the holeshot and was in front for a while and then Tommy (Searle) passed me," the team's Portuguese rider said. "I tried to follow him and stay in his lines but then he crashed and I was able to overtake. I'm confident for tomorrow because I know my times are good and I'll just go out and do my best."
Searle confident for Sunday
Tommy Searle, Tyla's main rival for the championship title went out in his usual dashing style but twice his front tyre got stuck and spilled him off. He finished fifth in the second qualifier and remains confident for Sunday's race. "I didn't have such a good start in the race but I was able to take the lead but then my front tyre got stuck and I crashed. I tried to close the gap and then I had another crash. I like the track okay and I know I am very fast, but it's easy to make mistakes here. I am going to go out tomorrow and show what I can do," the British teenager said.
