MX3 – The MX3 World Champion 2008 is Sven Breugelmans

15.09.2008: MX3 – The MX3 World Champion 2008 is Sven Breugelmans

JAUER (GERMANY), 14th September 2008 –

The first race of the last event in Jauer finally gave the answer about the new MX3 World Champion. Belgian rider Sven Breugelmans (KTM) conquered his second MX3 World Title. Italian rider Cristian Beggi (Honda) is the World Vice-Champion, Cristophe Martin (Husqvarna) is the third rider in the MX3 Classification 2008.

The weekend was the most successful for Breugelmans and Martin. Breugelmans won the Championship, meanwhile Martin was unvanquishable in the race. The race track was one of the longest in the season. Although it was wide, the passing was not very easy because there were only some ideal lines. Many interesting jumps made the race even more exciting. In the first race Thomas Allier (Husqvarna) was holding the leadership, till Alvaro Lozano (KTM) passed him.

Christophe Martin was riding more and more fast. He lost chances to win the Championship already a week before, but he was decided to win the last event. After the first race he said: »My start was successful, I was fast. When I was on the fourth position I was working very hard to pass riders in front of me. I did it and I am happy that I won. It is difficult to say what will happen in the second race but I hope for my best.

.« Lozano finished second. Allier supplemented the success of his teammate Martin with the third position. Cristian Beggi (Honda) finished on the fourth position and it was clear that Breugelmans won the Championship. His KTM JM Racing Team has started to celebrate his World Title immediately after the first race.

The second race has started with the leadership od Alvaro Lozano, Martin was just behind him. This time Lozano was resisting better than in the first race. Martin was perserving and finally he passed Lozano also in the second race. After this move Martin was riding his own race and clinched the final double victory. Interesting was also the battle for the third position.

In the last laps Cristian Beggi and Antti Pyrhonen (Honda) has started to fight for the third place. They was riding wheel to wheel. Beggi was stronger, Pyrhonen has to confess his predominance and he finished fourth. The new MX3 World Champion Sven Breugelmans was planning to confirm his Title, but he did not even start the second race.

Breugelmans: »In the sighthing lap before the second race the engine of my bike stopped, I do not know why, I could not continue and it was impossible to start the race. I was lucky that it happen before the second race, when I was already the Champion. This race track was difficult. The organizer did a good preparation.« This is his second World Title in the career. With this results KTM JM Racing Team became the most successful team in the season. They won EMX2 European and also the MX3 World Title.

Husqvarna has started and finished the season with the victory. Their rider Thomas Allier won the first event in Talavera, while Christophe Martin won the final event. The final German event brought the second place to Alvaro Lozano, Beggi finished third. He lost the Championship Title already before, when his results were not persuasive. To compensate 33 points in the last event was impossible, because Breugelmans was too strong.

The MX3 World Championship standings 2008: 1. Sven Breugelmans (KTM, Belgium), 2. Cristian Beggi (Honda, Italy), 3. Christophe Martin (Husqvarna, France), 4. Thomas Allier (Husqvarna, France), 5. Alvaro Lozano (KTM, Spain), 6. Kristof Salaets (Honda, Belgium), 7. Martin Zerava (Honda, Czech Republic), 8. Patrick Caps (Kawasaki, Belgium), 9. Nicolai Marcher Hansen (Yamaha, Denmark), 10. Kasper Jensen (Honda, Denmark).

RIDER'S COMMENTS – THE GERMAN RACE:

3rd – CRISTIAN BEGGI: »The race track was not one of my favourites. I did two good starts. In the first race I had to put more effort to passed some fast riders in front of me than in the second. Second race was not as difficult. In the first race I also thought that I could compensate some points against Breugelmans but it did not work out. My feelings are mixed, I am satisfied and I am not. I was so close to the World Title, but in the last part of the season I did not make results as I should.«

2nd – ALVARO LOZANO: »I am very happy that I got the podium also in the last event. The race track was difficult, hard and fast. To pass the riders in front of me was difficult. I am more than satisfied with my results after the injury. For me the best track in the season was Talavera de la Reina. There I did not have a luck and the result was not very good, but the track was the best. The worst experience for me was my bad injury in Portugal.«

1st – CHRISTOPHE MARTIN: »I had the perfect weekend here in Germany. I was very fast yesterday in free practices, after in the Qualifying Practice where I had the fourth fastest time and also today. It was the best race in the season. I won both races, it could not be better. The bike was well prepared, I am in the good conditions and my today's result speaks about it. I really enjoyed at this race track.«

RIDER'S COMMENTS – THE CHAMPIONSHIP:

3rd – CHRISTOPHE MARTIN: »After the successful start of the season, when our team Husqvarna made good results, the factory gave us more support and better conditions. I am very satisfied with the season and with my team. I would like thank to everyone for their help. In the next season I think I will continue with Husqvarna, they have been promised even better conditions, with the big truck, also the team will be bigger. But at the moment I can not say anything special.«

2nd – CRISTIAN BEGGI: »For me the best race in the season was in San Severino. It was my home Italian event and I won it. Also the event in Chile was a nice experience. The best experiences in the season were races, where I made good results. During the season I made too many mistakes to win the Championship. I was satisfied with my team Honda Martin and with the preparation of the bike.

I hope we will continue our collaboration, but everything is still open. We just finished the season. As I already said, I am happy but not too satisfied. I was leading the Championship for the long time, after I did not won it.«

WORLD CHAMPION – SVEN BREUGELMANS: »This season I made lot of mistakes. At the end I was riding better again, I did some top results and now I won the Championship. It is perfect! I do not know nothing about the next season. For now it is not decided yet if the KTM Factory will continue with the MX3 World Championship. If not, I will have to find a new team.«
