Spanish teenager Marc Marquez put in an impressive race and final lap to be the top KTM 125 cc finisher at the GP of San Marino on the Misano circuit.
Marquez fought his way through the 23-lap race and overtook his Spanish rival Nicolas Terol on the last lap. Repsol KTM team-mate Esteve Rabat was second-best KTM rider of the day, riding to a strong ninth position.
A KTM highlight was also the ride by young Red Bull MotoGP Academy rookie Jonas Folger of Germany who finished fifteenth place for his first world championship point in only his second start in a 125cc GP. Red Bull KTM rider Randy Krummenacher was knocked down by another rider on the opening lap of the race but bravely rode on after a pit stop finishing a lonely race in twenty sixth place.
Marc Marquez (Repsol KTM 125 - 4th)
"It was a really tough race, with lots of heat, lots of incidents and lots of hard battles. But we brought it to a happy ending and all the good work we managed in the practice sessions finally paid off. We might have been a bit down on engine power when compared to the others, but otherwise the bike was fantastic. The last lap was especially good for me, because I'd figured out where to attack Nico Terol. I waited patiently for the right moment and finally got him!"
Jonas Folger (Red Bull MotoGP Academy 125 - 15th)
"I had a good start, and even though I slipped back a few places in the heat of the first corner I found a good rhythm and I was about a second faster than in practice. I never thought I'd manage a world championship point from my twenty eighth grid spot and in only my second GP. That makes me happy!"
Randy Krummenacher (Red Bull KTM 125 - 26th)
"I got hit by another rider on the opening lap and crashed. I managed to continue, but had to pull in for a pit stop because the fairing was broken. The field was long gone when I finally was able to continue but I decided not to give up and rode on until the end of the race!"
