MX3 - Christian Beggi took the firt overseas victory in Chile

05.08.2008: MX3 - Christian Beggi took the firt overseas victory in Chile

The twelfth event for the FIM MX3 World Championship in Chile, South America has began with the fog, finished with the hot sun and with the big victory of Italian Honda rider Cristian Beggi. The atmosphere was amazing and the conditions for the riders were perfect.

The race track Laguna Caren is 1600 metres long. In the morning the ground was still wet, but as soon as the sun came, the racing conditions were better. Two French riders from the team Husqvarna Sima, Thomas Allier and Christophe Martin were continue their predominance from the last event. In the first race Thomas Allier took the 25 points.

After the successful start Belgian rider Sven Breugelmans (KTM) took the lead. Because of the broken front fork he crashed and lost positions. Allier passed him and started his victorius way to the top: »My start was fast and I am satisfied. The race track is good and I found out myself very well.« Martin was following to the team colleague and finished second.

The start was not successful for Italian Cristian Beggi, who had to made up some places and at the end of the first race he was third. Kasper Jensen from Denmark did his best result till now. He had a perfect start and finished on the fourth position.

Jensen said: »I had really a good start. In the second corner I had a small crash with the one of Husqvarna riders, but everything came out well. I am satisfied that I held out the whole race. I am happy for it. The race track is difficult.« Breugelmans finished fourth. The best home rider in the first race was Pablo Quintanilla (Honda) on the seventh position.

In the second race Allier and Martin repeated good starts. But for Allier the race stopped in the third lap, after the engine on his bike was broken. Christophe Martin became the leader. His leadership did not lasting long. Beggi took the opportunity while Martin became tired and won. The Qualifying winner Alvaro Lozano (KTM) made a good start. In continuation he did a mistake.

At the end he finished just behind the Beggi on the second position. Martin was third. It was really a black day for Breugelmans, who came to Chile as a leader with the red front plate. At the end of the second race he crashed, broke the bike and finished only on the twelfth position. He lost many points against Beggi and also the first place in the MX3 Classification. The best South American rider in the second race was Honda rider from Argentina, Sebastian Sanchez on the fourth place.

Cristian Beggi became the winner of the first overseas MX3 World Championship event and took the lead of the Championship with the advantage of fifteen points. Christophe Martin got the second place, that is very important for his Championship standing. After the twelfth event he is only nine points behind the second best rider Sven Breugelmans. Kasper Jensen was successful also in the second race and he will go back to Europe with the fourth position.

The best home rider was Pablo Quintanilla, who took the fifth position. Quintanilla was glad that he could compete with the strong European riders. He said: »I am satisfied with the fifth place and it was a pleasure to compete with all these riders. It was not easy. The whole event was perfect organized. I would like to say, that there are many good riders in Chile, which are disregarded.« In the MX3 World Championship Classification Thomas Allier is still on the fourth position and Kristof Salaets (Honda) is fifth.

In Laguna Caren there was also the competition for the South American MX2 Championship. The winner was Yamaha rider Alejandro Schmit from Argentina, who won both races. He was very satisfied with his riding:

»All that I can say is that I am happy. All the weekend was difficult. The bike was well prepared and althought there was lot of rain on Saturday, at the end everything was good.« Second was Miguel Cordovez (Honda) from Ecuador: »As a rider from Ecuador I am happy about this second place. Anyway I think it was not a surprise.« Jose Felipe (Kawasaki) from Argentina took the third position: »For me this third place is very important. It was nice to compete here in Laguna Caren.«

RIDER'S COMMENTS:

1st – CRISTIAN BEGGI: »First I have to say that I am very satisfied with the support of Honda Chile and I would like thank to them. For me this weekend was like my home event. Everybody was friendly, helpful, I am really happy to be here. Two events ago in Slovenia I got the light injury and I did not make a good result. Now I am glad that I am back on the top. The organization of the event here in Chile was perfect, everything looks nice, there were really lot of loudy spectators all around. The race track was difficult because there were deep lines at some parts and many bumps.«

2nd – CHRISTOPHE MARTIN: »It was the very good race. I did two top results. This second place is very important for me, because I am trying to climb more to the top of the Championship Classification. The first race was difficult, the race track was damaged of the water. In the second race I was a little tired, but I think I did a good race. I am satisfied with the bike settings. I have to say I have a big support of our team, Husqvarna Sima.«

3rd – ALVARO LOZANO: »This weekend was difficult for me. After the injury I did not make lot of practice and I did not know what I can do here in Chile. In the first race I had some problems with the bike, in the second race everything was great and I finished second. This result is important for me and for my come come back. I would like to dedicate this third place to my wife and son, who are at home in the Spain at the moment.«
