MX3 - Alex Salvini won the sunney wet Orehova Vas event

OREHOVA VAS (SLOVENIA), 13th July 2008 –

Italian rider Alex Salvini (Suzuki) won the tenth sunny-wet event in Orehova vas. The weekend began with more than 30 degrees and finished with the big storm. Anyway it was the successful event with many spectators all around the 1540 metres long race track.

In the first race two KTM riders Sven Breugelmans and Alvaro Lozano were the fastest after the start. French rider Christophe Martin (Husqvarna) came in the front after the three laps and he was the leader more than half of the race. Alex Salvini was making the big pressure to the Martin. After the some unsuccessful trials he finally overtook him and won. Martin did a good result and finished second. It was the successful race also for the home rider Saso Kragelj (Yamaha), who lives only some metres away from the race track. In the first race he finished third.

The second race was won by the home rider Saso Kragelj. He has shown already many times that he can be very fast on the muddy race track. Some minutes before the second start there was a big storm, that made conditions very difficult. Kragelj was riding behind Breugelmans almost all the race. When Breugelmans did a mistake, Kragelj passed him. But it was not the end of the changes of positions. On the last jump also Salvini overtook him and Breugelmans lost the podium. He finished third and he was fourth overall. It was the successful return for Alvaro Lozano, who was out of competition for almost two months because of the injury. He was sixth.

For Italian Honda rider Cristian Beggi it was the worst event in the season. He got only three points and lost the leadership. In the first race he was involved in the crash in the first corner after the start. He started the race from the last position. Till the end he came only to the 24th position and he did not get any point. Already after the first race it was clear that Sven Breugelmans is the new leader of the FIM MX3 World Championship Classification.

Of course Beggi was not happy about it and he wanted to make a better result in the second race. He was one of those riders, that had much problems with the rain and the muddy race track. He finished only 18th. In the Championship Classification Breugelmans became the new leader with the big advantage of 23 points. Beggi is second and Christophe Martin is still the third rider in the MX3 Classification.

The next event for the FIM MX3 World Championship will be the next weekend in Sverepec, Slovakia.

RIDER'S COMMENT:

1st – ALEX SALVINI: »It was a very successful weekend for me. My Suzuki was well prepared and alredy yesterday in the Qualifying practice, when I took the pole position, I was satisfied with the bike settings. In the first race I had a good start. In the second race I did not have the most successful start, but after I was very strong in the difficult conditions. The race track was nice and very difficult. The rain before the second start made even more difficult conditions. Only some corners before the finish line I overtook Breugelmans and I won the race. I am happy for this. Here in Orehova vas I had been competing in the 2004, but then I was not successful.«

2nd – SASO KRAGELJ: »All that I can say is, that it was the wonderfull event for me. To win on the home race track is the perfect feeling for each rider. I am very happy that I won in the second race. Motocross is the sport, that is finished only after the final line and many things can happen. I had to hold out the second race, that was really very difficult because of the changeable weather conditions and muddy race track. My result is one of the biggest success for the Slovenian motocross and I gave a proof that also the Slovenian rider can be very high in the World Championship. I would like thank to the organizer, that did a good event.«

3rd – CHRISTOPHE MARTIN: »I was here in Orehova vas for the first time. There were some holes and deep lines on the race track. On the some parts, it was difficult to follow the lines. In the second race, when the conditions were much more different as before, I did not start in the front. I am very happy for the third place in the overall classification. In my team Husqvarna Sima I have a big support. The most important thing is, to fight for the best possible positions.«
