Matt Kenseth to start fourth in Homestead Cup Finale

DAVID GILLILAND – No. 38 M&M’s Ford Fusion (Qualified 12th)

WILL THAT HOLD UP? "I doubt it. We didn’t get a good draw. To qualify really good I think you have to go later on in the run, but I’m really proud of all the guys. Our M&M’s Ford Fusion was about four-tenths faster than we’d been all day. We just kept making good changes to it and making it better, so Todd and all the guys made some air-pressure adjustments there at the end. That really put our Ford Fusion into the race track, so I’m real excited. We’re good so far."

HOW WAS PRACTICE? "All we did was race stuff this morning. We’ll see. This has been a good car for us, so we’re excited and looking forward to the race on Sunday."

HOW WAS THE LAP? "The track is a little bit slick right now, but our M&M’s Ford Fusion, Todd Parrott and all the guys made some great adjustments. I think we went four-tenths faster than we did in practice, so I’m real proud of all the guys. I think to start way up front you’re gonna have to go a little bit later on in the run, but for our qualifying draw we’re really proud of all our guys and our M&M’s Ford Fusion today."

IS THE WIND AN ISSUE? "Yeah, you can definitely feel it and heat is another thing. The track temp was up when we practiced and it’s slick out there."

JAMIE MCMURRAY – No. 26 Crown Royal Ford Fusion (Qualified 25th) – "That was pretty good. We had a really fast car last week and I messed up and qualified 23rd with it, and then our car wasn’t very good this week. But I went over to Busch practice after qualifying and Larry and the guys sat down and I don’t know what they did, it didn’t drive very good but it went a whole lot faster. It’s certainly not what we wanted, but it’s a lot better than what we had."

CARL EDWARDS – No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion (Qualified 10th) – "We got a really good draw there, but we’ve got a really good car. It’s good. Hopefully, that’ll be a top-10 and we’ll just go on and run really well in the race."

DAVID RAGAN – No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion (Qualified 7th)

DID YOU MAKE RACE RUNS IN PRACTICE TODAY? "Yeah, we always unload in race trim. That’s one thing that we can look at; we never really qualify great. I think we’ve qualified from 20th to 30th just about every week, we don’t qualify that great. We always unload in race trim, and that’s what we’re here to do, is race.

Qualifying, over time, I’ll learn to get that feel where I can go hard and then not take a risk in tearing up my Ford. So, I think over time qualifying is just going to take care of itself, but the two Saturday practices practices are more important than this Friday practice."

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST THING YOU LEARNED THIS YEAR? "That’s a tough question right there. Probably just to when to go hard and when not to. You know, if you’ve got a 10th-place car finish 10th with it, where before I would try to over-drive and usually tear something up or put myself in a bad position and get wrecked.

Not every week you’re going to have a winning car, there’s a lot of great teams and great drivers in this top level, and just take what we get. If we’ve got a top-15 car, finish 15th with it, and that’s one of the biggest things I’ve learned, just trying to take what I’ve got and make the best of it."

WHAT MADE THE LAP SO GOOD? "It was just real comfortable to drive. Sometimes you have good cars that you don’t have to over-drive in order to go fast. I learned something here last year in qualifying – drove in too hard and pushed through the middle and just killed my momentum. So, now I tried not to over-drive my entry, just try to get in the throttle a little earlier. It pays off.

The biggest thing is just fine-tuning the car between practice and now. Obviously, the track’s a little different. The temperature. The sun is setting. So, the biggest thing is just some of those small adjustments mean a lot. The difference between 10th and 30th sometimes are the small things."

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 DeWalt Ford Fusion (Qualified 4th) –

ÍS PIT SELECTION IMPORTANT HERE? "You always want to qualify good so you get a little better pit selection, you get a better spot to start. Maybe get some bonus points and lead early or something. There’s a lot of positives about qualifying good, so it feels good to get a lap that good."

DOES A GOOD CAR ON FRIDAY MEAN A GOOD CAR ON SUNDAY? "I hope so. I don’t know. We were pretty good on speed today, so we just have to get it to drive a little better."
