For two Nordic drivers, stage 13 was like a different time zone, as time slipped away against their will. Sweden's Mattias Ekstrom broke a drive shaft on the way to the stage and struggled on three wheels through the 18.22km stage. He limped into the time control a minute down in time.

A second place in SS10 for Kronos Total Citroen's Sebastien Loeb maintained his overall lead of the OMV ADAC Rallye Deutschland. SS10 Panzeplatte 1 is seen by many as perhaps the most challenging stage of the rally. However team-mate Dani Sordo was fastest in the 30.99km stage with a time of 18:09.5 taking another 6.8s out of Loeb's to bring him within 27.4s of the leader.

Sebastien Loeb won the last of the first leg's stages in Germany but it was Mikko Hirvonen who ran him closest, as the Finn's slick tyres worked on the dry tarmac, with the rain holding off for the final test. Hirvonen was less than one second behind Loeb, while team-mate Dani Sordo was third fastest.

Dani Sordo took the win on stage six of the German event, as he did on the earlier run through this morning. He was less than 0.5sec quicker than team-mate Sebastien Loeb, with Toni Gardemeister third fastest, opening out the gap to Manfred Stohl.

Sebastien Loeb took the win for SS5, as rain started to fall in the area. Loeb had to contend with a few kilometres of rain but as more cars came through the stage, the rain increased until it was raining from start to end. Second fastest was Dani Sordo with Francois Duval third.

Dani Sordo vilified the decision to promote him to number two driver at Kronos Total Citroen this weekend, by going through stage two fastest, 1.5 seconds in front of team-mate Sebastien Loeb. Toni Gardemeister was an impressive third-fastest in his four-year old Xsara, for a Citroen 1-2-3 on SS2.

Sebastien Loeb opened his account in Germany today, by winning the first stage of the OMV ADAC Rallye Deutschland. He went through SS1 in 11min 44.6sec, with intermediate tyres fitted to his Citroen Xsara WRC.
Overnight rain caused the first stage to be wet and extremely slippery and all drivers complained of mud on the roads and very tricky conditions.
