The show saw a major turnout in 2006 with nearly 1,500,000 visitors and more than 11,000 journalists from both France and abroad, which makes the Mondial de l’Automobile the most visited and widely covered show in the world.
The Mondial de l’Automobile aims to be increasingly welcoming, innovative and inventive.
In 2006, the Mondial beat its own record for unveiling new models to the public, presenting more than 70 world premieres. 2008 looks set to be an equally good year, with manufacturers scheduling several world premieres. What’s more, some manufacturers will be making their debut in Paris, such as Infiniti and Fiat Abarth, while others such as Matra and Lotus will be returning once more to the Mondial.
Concept cars, hybrid cars, biofuels, electric cars, visitors who are curious to discover the cars of tomorrow will be and the latest eco-friendly advances will be presented with a wide range of vehicles.
To date, more than 300 brands from 23 countries have registered for the show, with a surface area of 80,000 sq.m already booked up, figures that outdo 2006, with an additional hall for private cars.
In Hall 5/1, a "Prestige Centre" will showcase a dozen of the most luxurious brands in the automotive sector. For the first time at the Mondial, all these dream cars will be gathered together in one hall, so that visitors can discover the latest trends in the world of Haute Couture vehicles.
AN ACTION-PACKED MONDIAL
"Taxis from around the world" special exhibition (Hall 8)
Every year the Mondial has a special exhibition in one of its halls.
This year, "Taxis from around the world" takes pride of place.
A journey around the world and through the ages will lead us to discover or rediscover 40 vehicles from 31 countries. This historical treasure, garnered from the four corners of the earth and gathered together exceptionally under one roof for the Mondial de l’Automobile, will allow us to follow the evolution of taxis all over the world from 1912 until the present day.
At the outdoor off-road track to be set up outside Hall 7/1, visitors will be able to test out the latest 4-wheel drive innovations from the manufacturers present at the Mondial. Specialists will drive these vehicles over a distance of several hundred metres traversing a large 12m-high bridge, rocky patches, movable bridges, a ditch etc, so that visitors can discover several 4WD brands in realistic conditions.
FFSA Karting Track (Hall 7/1)
In Hall 7/1 the French Motor Sports Federation will be laying on an electric karting track. Clean, quiet and odour-free vehicles will allow one and all to discover the joys and sensations of karting.
