Singapore luxury residential property developer, SC Global Developments, has ensured one of Hong Kong’s most successful racing drivers is firmly back in the driving seat in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia this season. Matthew Marsh, the only Hong Kong driver ever to have competed in the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours, is preparing for the Zhuhai rounds of the region’s premier GT series next month with his new team SC Global Racing.
With Singapore set to host its first Formula One Grand Prix later this year, interest in the dynamic, high-octane sport of motor racing has surged in the City State. SC Global, mindful of its position as one of Singapore’s most respected and prestigious companies, wanted a driver who would reflect its commitment to excellence for its first foray into the sport, and found it in Marsh.

Marsh, 2004 Porsche Carrera Cup Champion, is delighted to be back behind the wheel of one of the 18 awesome Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racing cars which compete in the series. SC Global Racing’s inaugural Porsche Carrera Cup Asia campaign began in March this year, where the series supported the 2008 Formula 1™ Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, and continued at the Shanghai International Circuit in April.
Currently 6th on the championship leaderboard, SC Global Racing has been at the front of the pack since the opening round, but Marsh knows the two upcoming races in Zhuhai, and the all-important points which are up for grabs, are crucial to the team’s campaign: "I know the Zhuhai Circuit well, but unfortunately so do many of the other drivers!," he says. "We had a few technical setbacks in the last rounds which were beyond our control. With a field as competitive as this, a fraction of a second can make a huge difference as everyone is on the limit 100% of the time, so the time we lost wasn’t helpful. Still, we’ve put that behind us and we’ll arrive in Zhuhai firing on all cylinders!"
Following the Zhuhai rounds, SC Global Racing will head to Indonesia before what promises to be the highlight of the season, the Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia races which will support the inaugural Formula One Grand Prix in Singapore.
As one of Hong Kong’s best-known motorsport personalities, Marsh is vastly experienced, having competed at some of the world’s most famous – and demanding – tracks, including Monaco, Daytona, Macau and Germany’s Nürburgring.
Rounds 5 and 6 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia will be held at Zhuhai International Circuit on June 21-22.
