• Esports racer Sebastian Job and real-world Pros Romain Grosjean and Tony Kanaan discuss their expectations before the start of the first event in the new VCO ProSIM SERIES on iRacing.

• At 20:00, 92 participants in 46 teams will compete in the first of a total of eight events.

• The ‘Fun Race’ takes place on the circuit at Watkins Glen, while user voting chose the ‘Twin Ring Motegi’ as the location for the ‘Championship Race’.

At a virtual press conference immediately before the start of the first race in the VCO ProSIM SERIES on the iRacing platform organised by Virtual Competition Organisation (VCO), three of the stars of the series chatted about their relationship with Esports racing and what they are expecting from the VCO ProSIM SERIES. The conversation featured Esports racer Sebastian Job, Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean and IndyCar champion Tony Kanaan.

The first races begin at 20.00 CET (LIVE on YouTube).
The ‘Fun Race’ will take place on the circuit at Watkins Glen, while the community voted online for the ‘Twin Ring Motegi’ to host the subsequent ‘Championship Race’. A total of 92 drivers from various real-world and virtual teams and race series will be taking part. There is a total prize fund of 50,000 US dollars up for grabs to the end of March.

Sebastian Job (Esports racer, Red Bull Racing Esports):
“A lot more people are following us this year. I think a lot of people did not have a close look at us before. Also, real world pros really started to realise how fun and how competitive Esports Racing can be.

They have the best equipment because they really want to go for it. I have been really impressed. In the past real-world pros struggled. Two years ago, it was very rare that they would succeed. But this year, there are a lot of very fast guys. For us this is great. It is better all around. I hope that we can sustain that - and this series is a great way of doing that.”

Tony Kanaan (Real-world Pro, Red Bull Racing Esports)
: “I think I might be one of the oldest participants in the VCO ProSIM SERIES – apart from Rubens Barrichello. Nonetheless, Esports racing is pretty new for me. I started out on iRacing about six months ago during the pandemic.

I have always been interested in watching streams from races, but I’ve got four children at home, so I’ve always been reluctant to get myself a simulator. I suspected that I would spend a lot of time on it. It is a lot of fun, but I have to admit that I don't feel like I have a chance when compared to the professional Esports racers, but I will enjoy competing against the best of the best in the VCO ProSIM SERIES.”

Romain Grosjean (Real-world Pro, R8G Esports):
“I always looked at Esports Racing and saw how it developed. It’s sport, it is tough and competitive. I also wanted to find a bridge between real word driving and Esports racing because racing in the real world is just so expensive, so I believe there is a business plan behind it but it is also just really fun to race with the guys.

The VCO ProSIM SERIES is done very professionally. Also the mix of real world drivers and Esports racers is what makes it really great for us. It is a super high standard event. I hope I won’t embarrass myself.”
