FIA GT1 World Championship, round 3 Navarra (Spain), 26-27 May 2012



This weekend, Hexis Racing will race in the third round of the FIA GT1 World Championship after a month’s break, which has given the team time to prepare for the race in Spain. On the way to Navarra the team stopped off at the Motorland Aragon circuit to take part in a private test session, yesterday Tuesday.


Philippe Dumas, the team manager of the reigning world championship team announced it at Nogaro: the Hexis-McLarens must be in a position to give their drivers a podium finish in Navarra. It’s a realistic objective as the English GT came fourth in France and in Belgium.


However, with the event concentrated into two days there will be no room for mistakes over the weekend. The slightest incident could prove very costly, so Hexis has stacked all the odds in its favour to tackle the Spanish round in the right frame of mind.


“Since Zolder, we’ve been able to work a lot and rest a little” says Dumas. “The team’s in tip-top form to aim for its first podium finish with a McLaren. We’ve optimised a host of details in the workshop. At Motorland the aim was to test new upgrades.


The areas of development concern the cooling as well as braking and in particular, the ABS. This only goes to show the close relationship between Hexis and Mclaren GT. We really do work hand in hand and all the teams that race McLaren GT 12C GT3s will benefit from our technical steps forward.”


Hexis already knows the Navarra circuit as it has hosted the Spanish round of the FIA GT1 World Championship over the past two years, and the French team came second there in 2010. Last winter the nos 1 and 2 McLarens racked up the kilometers on the 3,933-km layout. So everything points to a positive weekend in Spain. Viva Navarra!
