Rally Italia Sardegna 2012

Mads Østberg, Adapta World Rally Team, Ford Fiesta RS WRC (7th) said
: “On the first stage after service [SS6] I was still not 100 per cent happy and I felt that something was wrong with the rear of the car. We pushed really hard, but towards the end of the stage there was a problem with the rear differential and we just lost the drive from the rear wheels.

Basically from there on we just had two-wheel drive. We have just tried to lose as little time as possible and we were pushing really hard on the last two stages [SS7 and SS8]. The car did a lot of strange things, but we survived and I am actually very pleased with that.”

Martin Prokop, Ford Fiesta RS WRC (8th) said
: “To sum it up, it has been very difficult. We had a problem on the road section and had to stop and fix it which meant that we lost a lot of time. Then on the last stage [SS8] we had a puncture. It has been a really stressful afternoon, so not so easy at all really.

On some stages we have had quite a good feeling, especially on the second pass when the road was cleaner, so I hope we can build on this tomorrow and set some good times.”

Karl Kruuda, Ford Fiesta S2000 (9th) sai
d: “We came up over a crest on the last stage [SS8] and I didn’t quite understand if it was left or right – so I turned left at first, and then I realised it was right! I missed the line and hit a big rock. I thought the rear wheel was only a little bit broken so I continued.

But then three kilometres before the end of the stage, I realised there was a puncture as well which destroyed the rear end of the car. Before that the other two stages were good. I was really happy with the second stage [SS7] – top-six isn’t bad! Tonight we will get the car back into the shape it should be, and then just drive to the end and try to stay in the top-ten.”
