World Series by Renault 2008 / Formula Renault 3.5 / Monza

Le premier meeting des World Series by Renault 2008, Bertrand Baguette et l'ensemble de la formation Draco l'attendaient avec impatience, histoire de confirmer les excellents chronos enregistrés durant l'intersaison. Mais à Monza, comme l'an dernier, la roue a refusé de tourner pour le pilote belge, qui se présentera à Francorchamps le week-end prochain nanti d'un score toujours vierge...

Pour le coup d'envoi de la saison, la Formula Renault 3.5 s'est jointe à la Le Mans Series à Monza, avec pour conséquence un timing plus serré que lors des meetings World Series by Renault, et donc l'absence de l'exercice de la Super Pole, mis en place cette année. Deux groupes ont dès lors été créés, et les quatre premiers de chacun de ces groupes avaient l'assurance de bien figurer sur les deux grilles de départ.

"Hélas pour moi, la premier groupe était systématiquement constitué du pilote le plus rapide de chaque team", explique Bertrand. "Autrement dit, mon groupe était relevé à l'extrême. Une petite erreur de stratégie au moment de passer un train de pneus neufs ne nous a pas facilité la tâche, mais on s'en est plutôt bien tiré quand même, avec le 4ème meilleur chrono. Et comme le top 4 était exceptionnellement inversé pour le samedi, et que mon groupe était le plus rapide, je me suis retrouvé en pole position en vue de la première manche !"

Auteur d'un excellent envol, Baguette se trouvait rapidement flanqué du Français Charles Pic, qui se positionnait à sa hauteur dès le premier freinage. Mais le pilote Draco tenait bon, et c'est en leader qu'il achevait le premier tour de la saison.

"Dès cet instant, j'ai senti que quelque chose ne fonctionnait pas au niveau de la boîte de vitesses", poursuit Bertrand. "J'éprouvais des difficultés à rétrograder, mais malgré tout, je parvenais à me maintenir au commandement, et même à accentuer un peu mon avance. Hélas, dès le 3ème tour, la boîte s'est bloquée sur le 5ème rapport, et je n'avais plus qu'à renoncer..." Terrible désillusion donc, l'origine du problème étant électronique, et nullement imputable au pilote...

Ce dimanche, c'est depuis la 7ème place sur la deuxième grille de départ que le pilote RACB National Team s'élançait, avec la ferme intention d'engranger un maximum de points. Une fois encore, tout se passait bien pour Bertrand, qui pointait au 6ème rang à l'issue du premier freinage... "Et puis Fabio Carbone est venu se mettre à côté de moi, sans que je ne le vois.

J'ai pris ma trajectoire, et je l'ai percuté", explique l'infortuné pilote Draco. "Un incident de course comme beaucoup d'autres. Et le triste point final d'un week-end qui aurait pu nous réussir, car ma voiture était très rapide ici, facile à piloter, et je me sentais tout à fait à l'aise ! Cette première course, je suis certain qu'il y avait possibilité de la remporter..."

Dès le prochain week-end, à Francorchamps, Bertrand Baguette va déjà courir après les points perdus, mais il garde le moral. "Pas de panique, le team est très bon, et le double incident de Monza ne remet rien en cause. Il faut garder confiance, et je suis sûr que tout fonctionnera parfaitement à domicile. Le rendez-vous est pris..."
