RSV Motorsport confronts the season 2008 with Europe in the point of view. The champions' title of Spain obtained in 2007 by Domingo Romero and Peter Sundberg invites to optimism, and the Hispanic - Swedish couple confronts the first meeting of the GT Open in Vallelunga, Italy, with the aim to start establishing their options to the continental throne.
The time of preparations and tests has come to its end. Vallelunga will mark the starting point to validate the intense work of the technical personnel of RSV on the Ferrari 430 GT2 of Romero and Sundberg, which releases a technical evolution given directly by Cavallino's company. In this regard, the times recorded in the tests invite to optimism, and the Andalusian vehicle is sure to be among the aspirants' pleiad to the throne that Richard Lietz and Joel Camathias show.
The International GT Open presents shy regulation modifications with a view to the present season. The most important of them is the merger of GTS and GTB in one only category, GTS (GT3), which will coexist with the already existing GTA (GT2), where the Ferrari 430 of RSV is fitted. In addition, the race handicaps for the new recruits in the latter will be reduced to only 15, 10 and 5 seconds, which should have less influence on the fight for the first positions.
The format of the races is kept unaltered: two tests of 65 and 45 minutes to be held on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. What does change, on the other hand, is the calendar of competitions, which grows up to eight meetings after the incorporation of a new race in the Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, which RSV knows to the perfection after its participation in its famous 24 Hours in 2006.
Returning to the present, RSV will try to fight against Vallelunga's ghosts, one of the tracings that brings worse recollections to the top couple of the Andalusian team. Nevertheless, to overcome sixth and seventh positions of last year is by no means a chimera.
The weekend of competition will start on Friday with the dispute of the free tests; on Saturday, it will be the turn of two classification lots and the long race, and the program will conclude on Sunday with the dispute of the second valid race. You can follow the championship to the detail across the organizer's web www.gtsport.es and on television, tuning to the channel Eurosport2.
