How WTCC regulations will change in 2014

25.08.2013: The FIA World Touring Car Championship will undergo significant




The FIA World Touring Car Championship will undergo significant evolution in terms of technical and sporting regulations from the 2014 season.



Here is a summary of the main topics that will feature in the final version of both the technical and sporting regulations that will be submitted for approval to the World Motor Sport Council.          

       
       

           
     NEW TECHNICAL RULES – Q&A



•    How much will the power increase? Up to approximately 380 bhp


•    How will the look of the cars change? They will have larger fenders, bigger bumpers, rear wings and front splitters


•    Will the suspensions be different? Yes, all cars may adopt McPherson strut (front and rear)


•    Will a flat floor be allowed? It will be compulsory


•    Will the wheels be bigger? Yes, from 17” to 18”


•    Will the cars be lighter? Yes, by 50 kilograms; the minimum weight will be 1100 kg


•    Will the cars be lower? Yes, ground clearance will decrease from 80 to 60 millimetres


•    Will these changes result in faster cars? Yes, by about 1.5 second per kilometre


•    Will a push-to-pass system be adopted? It is possible, but not before 2015          

               

           
     NEW SPORTING RULES – Q&A




    Will the qualifying format change? Yes, Q1 and Q2 will stay like they are, but a Q3 will be added: the first five drivers in Q2 will complete one timed lap each to establish the order of the first five positions in Race 1


•    Will the point allocation system change? No, the current point system remains in place for Qualifying and the Races


•    Will the reverse grid system change? No, the first ten drivers classified in the qualifying will still be reversed on the grid for Race 2


•    Will the race distance change? All races will be of 60 kilometres; now they are between 50 and 60 kilometres


•    Will the compensation weight system change? No, it will stay like it is


•    Will the current cars compete for a separate classification? Yes, they will compete for a special trophy (further details to follow)
