- Ends the 2014 Formel 3 Cup with his best result of the season -

Malaysian Weiron Tan ended his first season in the Formel 3 Cup in spectacular fashion, with an electrifying drive through the field on Saturday afternoon to claim his debut win in the series.  Tan followed this with another stellar performance on Sunday which saw the Van Amersfoort Racing driver secure his second win of the season in dazzling style.

Tan headed to Hockenheim on the back of securing three podium finishes at Sachsenring.  The young Malaysian had a challenging qualifying session, qualifying in fifth position for race one and five.  The team worked hard throughout the night to make improvements to the car and on Saturday morning he lined up on the grid for the first race of the weekend.

Tan made a textbook start and was up to P2 in the opening seconds of the race. Tan then stayed on the tail of race leader Dontje until he seized the opportunity to pass the Dutchman on turn four.  Second placed driver Pommer managed to squeeze past Tan a couple of laps later but was immediately given a drive through penalty which promoted Tan back up to P1.

Tan continued to push hard to pull away from the rest of the field, and after 19 laps of racing took the checkered flag and his first win of the season.

For race two’s reverse grid on Saturday afternoon, Weiron lined up in eighth position.   Tan made a strong start, however disappointment was to strike in the opening lap when Hackl made contact with Tan which resulted in the young Malaysian being forced to retire from the race.

For the final race of the season, Tan once again lined up in P5. Making another lightning start, Tan was up to P2 by the start of lap two and was right on the tail of race leader Jeffri. Tan put in a series of strong laps and on lap seven Jeffri was forced to retire due to a technical failure, elevating Tan to P1.  Tan continued to defend his position from a chasing Dontje but held onto a one second lead and took the checkered flag for another strong win.

Weiron Tan: “It was a great way to end the season with a double win.  The team did a brilliant job and they deserved the wins, racing is always a team effort.  I want to say a big thank you to each and every one of them!  It was amazing to experience hearing my national anthem on the podium, it was a very emotional moment for me and my dad.

Just looking at the smiles on the faces of those who helped and supported me made me appreciate what we have achieved together and made all the hard work worth it!

Weiron Tan ends the 2014 Formel 3 Cup in fifth position in the Championship.
