Michela Cerruti forced to miss final Auto GP round

15.10.2014: Mixed Weekend at Red Bull Ring Michela Cerruti is unable to contest the final Auto GP round at Estoril

Mixed Weekend at Red Bull Ring

Michela Cerruti is unable to contest the final Auto GP round at Estoril this weekend, having suffered a recurrence of a back injury that was already aggravated following the Imola event earlier this year.

Doctors have informed her that a small operation is necessary to fix the issue and strongly advised against taking any risks this weekend to worsen the injury.

Michela Cerruti

“I'm deeply saddened for not being able to enter the Estoril race with Super Nova. The 2014 Auto GP finale would have been a perfect closing step for this year's learning experience. An experience that brought me three podium finishes and a win.

Two weeks ago, I also entered a collective test at Estoril together with my team in order to boost the preparations for the event. In the last few days though, following to a medical check, I was strongly advised not to race due to a recurring back injury. This is an issue I had been dealing with for a while.

In order to solve the problem and be at my 100% for the next season, the doctors advised me to stop and undergo a surgery procedure that will keep me parked for the next month. I want to thank the Super Nova team for everything they did for me this year, as well as the whole Auto GP staff.

They really made me feel at home throughout the whole season. I'm definitely going to follow the final race of the season, supporting my squad in their chase for the team's title”.

John Sears - Team Manager

"The whole team received this news with a heavy heart as we have built a great relationship with Miki and thoroughly enjoyed working with her this year. Our target was to win at least one race with her this year and that was achieved with her accomplished performance in Imola.

It's a shame for her season to end like this as after our testing in Estoril I was confident of achieving further success this weekend. We wish Miki the best of recoveries and look forward to her support this weekend."
