Nach dem weitgehend verregneten Rennwochenende des Vorjahres hatte sich das Team heute zum Ziel gesetzt, möglichst viele Informationen über die Streckencharakteristik im Trockenen zu sammeln. Entsprechend umfangreich war das Aufgabenheft von Fernando Alonso und Nelson Piquet.
Die beiden Piloten des ING Renault F1 Teams fuhren zusammen 149 Runden, um Daten zu sammeln, die Abstimmung voranzutreiben und die beiden Bridgestone-Reifenoptionen zu vergleichen.
Das Team zeigte sich dabei in guter Verfassung und will diese starke Form nun morgen im Qualifying bestätigen.
