Dakar Rally 2017
 Stage 8 Uyuni - Salta 892 km
Tuesday, January 10th 2016

09:15 Pedrero looking the most dangerous

Juan Pedrero has also finished the first part of the special. The Spaniard is the most serious rival today for Joan Barreda, 1'24 behind the Honda rider.

08:57  bike 031 - Renet in third

Pierre-Alexandre Renet is in good form today. The Husqvarna rider has reached CP1 one second behind Matthias Walkner and 2'39 behind Joan Barreda. Stefan Svitko has lost time on the last few kilometres leading up to CP1 and now trails the stage leader by 3'30.

08:49 Metge and Walkner still in with a shout

Respectively trailing Joan Barreda by 2'21 and 2'38 at CP1, Michael Metge and Matthias Walkner are watching for the slightest error from the Honda rider, in order to swipe the stage victory from the Spaniard's grasp.

08:25 011 - Barreda finishes the first part of the special

Joan Barreda has reached CP1 which marks the end of the first part of the special and the start of the neutralised zone up to the border with Argentina. The Spaniard has set the best time so far, with a lead of 3'54 over general standings leader Sam Sunderland and 7'10 over Paulo Gonçalves.

08:22 012 - Pedrero is having a great day!

Juan Pedrero, the winner of this year's first stage, is putting in a superb performance to place his Sherco in second position at WP2, only 53 seconds behind his countryman Joan Barreda.

08:10  002 - Svitko piles on the pressure

Stefan Svitko would like to win a stage this year. The second placed rider on the 2016 edition has regained time on Barreda, having reached WP2 with the second best time so far, 1'21 behind the Spaniard.

08:02 011 - Barreda maintains his pace

Joan Barreda continues to set the pace on the first half of the special with a lead that has extended to 1'30 over Michael Metge on reaching WP2. Matthias Walkner has managed to gain several seconds and now lies 1'31 behind the Spanish stage leader.

07:55 Svitko and Renet in the reckoning

Stefan Svitko and Pierre Alexandre Renet are five seconds apart at WP1. What's more, the two men are only two minutes behind stage leader Barreda.

bike 027  Rodrigues springs a surprise

With two top ten finishes since the start, Joaquim Rodrigues is perhaps set to accomplish his finest special on the Dakar for his debut on the rally. The Portuguese biker, who is riding a Hero Speedbrain, has reached WP1 with the third best time so far, 1'51 behind the current leader.

The going gets tough for Gonçalves and Brabec

Paulo Gonçalves and Ricky Brabec are in difficulty at WP1. The Portuguese rider trails his team-mate Joan Barreda by 5 minutes, whilst Ricky Brabec, who is opening the way, lies 8'33 behind the Spaniard.

Sunderland in control

In sixth place, 2'34 behind Barreda, general standings leader super Sam Sunderland is superbly controlling his race.

Walkner lies in wait

Matthias Walkner is keeping up with the pace nicely. The Austrian has reached WP1 in third place, 1'57 behind Barreda.

07:19 - bike 011 - Barreda leads at WP1

As expected, Joan Barreda is not doing things by half on the start of the eighth stage. The Spaniard has reached the first time check point with the best time, just over a minute ahead of his team-mate Michael Metge who also has often been in the spotlight on this Dakar.
