Mexican González stepped second onto the podium three times throughout the weekend. Berets and Caouette also made it into the top-ten ninth and tenth respectively

Mexico’s Javier González secured Drivex’s best F.4 Spain finish in 2017 during Round 4 at Circuito de Jerez. Russian Ivan Berets and Canadian Jakes Caouette also delivered strong performances in the Drivex-run Tatuus cars.

On Friday, after two free practice sessions, the single qualifying session took place in the afternoon. González clocked a lap time of 1:43.704, less than two tenths behind pole-sitting driver, to line up second on the starting grid. Berets and Caouette took 10th and 11th spots on the grid.

On Saturday during race one, despite González started on used tires, the Mexican driver mastered the conditions. Danish Christian Lungaard passed him at the start but González kept in his slipstream to overtake him on lap nine.

From then on, González pulled away to take the checkered flag in second place after 16 laps. Berets also finished in another points-paying position as came tenth. On the other hand, Caouette ended up 13th.

In the afternoon in race 2 González lined up second on the starting grid once again. The Drivex pilot ran in second place from lights-to-flag. Caouette finished tenth, two places ahead of Berets.

Finally, on Sunday’s race 3, which got underway at 8.30, González started from second and fended off his rivals when the lights went out. Behind, Caouette dropped to last place as he almost stalled on the grid and was unable to take advantage from his best qualifying effort so far in the series. González kept Lungaard at bay and brought another second place home. Berets finished 9th, his best result at the weekend and Caouette still moved up to 11th following his first lap problems.

The Spanish Formula 4 championship will head to Circuito de Navarra on 14-15 October to pay its second visit of the season.

Miguel Ángel de Castro: “Our weekend came to an end in style. It was our best race weekend of the season in the F.4 Spain. Javier scored three podium finishes and displayed his huge talent as soon as the car perfectly suited his driving style. We are extremely pleased with our results in Jerez and it’s a morale booster for sure the races ahead.

Ivan and Jakes also scored valuable points and I’m convinced they will reach the same level pretty soon. Unfortunately Jakes couldn’t take advantage from his ninth place on Sunday. We have three competitive drivers and we are looking forward to our upcoming events as the best is yet to come”
