Both of Its Porsches Place Sixth Friday at Road Atlanta

After 10 grueling rounds of competition that concluded Friday at Road Atlanta, Bodymotion Racing finished second in the top class, Grand Sport, in the 2017 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series.

Trent Hindman of Wayside, N.J. and Cameron Cassels of Coldstream, British Columbia, Canada, who drive the Ocean Township, N.J.-based team's No. 12 Porsche Cayman GT4 sponsored by Bodymotion, Delaware Investments and Trim Tex, ended the season with 266 points to the champions' 279, and they earned one more point than the pair who finished third.

Cassels and Hindman finished sixth in class in Friday's two-hour season finale, as did the team's entry in the series' Street Tuner (ST) class, the No. 31 Porsche Cayman sponsored by Bodymotion, Veristor, the Apex Sports Car Academy and Delaware Investments. Its drivers, Drake Kemper of Thermal, Calif. and Devin Jones of Mooresville, N.C., finished 17th and 18th in the final ST driver standings.

Cassels started seventh and kept the No. 12 in the top 10 throughout his stint. He rose to second around lap 20 when some of his rivals pitted under a full-course caution, and he was in fourth when he pitted under another yellow on lap 37.

Hindman started his stint in ninth place at the restart with 45 minutes remaining. He advanced to sixth with 15 minutes left, but could advance no further. He set the car's fastest lap of the race on lap 45 with a time of 1:30.795, while Cassels' best lap was a 1:31.782 on lap six.

Jones and Kemper's starting and finishing positions were identical. Jones drove the first half of the race and he was fifth when he turned the car over to Kemper on lap 28 with 71 minutes remaining. Kemper started his stint in 16th and got as high as fourth on lap 39, but fell back to 12th after some contact around lap 45.

He was tenth with 19 minutes remaining, and aided by some attrition that included a wreck that forced the race to end under yellow, he crossed the line in sixth place. The entry's fastest lap was Jones' lap six, which he turned in 1:37.383.

Bodymotion Racing finished second in the team GS championship, and it was also instrumental in helping Porsche win the manufacturer's championship in both classes. It tied for fourth in the VP Fuels Front Runner Award in GS, and it tied for third in those standings in ST.

Friday's race will be shown on FOX Sports 1 on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Eastern.

Post-race quotes follow:

Trent Hindman, co-driver, No. 12 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman GT4:

"We had a good pit stop. I think we lost a couple of positions on pit lane mainly because we didn't take fuel on the first one. I get it; we're naturally going to be a bit longer in the pit box. I was look forward to having a good scape with everyone and trying to move forward as best we could.

I was confident in the car the Bodymotion guys had given me, but when the green flag dropped I just couldn't go. I was fighting some balancing issues with the car early on. The race really started coming towards us with about 20 minutes to go and that's when we were really picking up time and making some moves for position. We just ran out of time, I suppose.

"P6 isn't the most ideal way to go into the off season, but at the end of the day I have to remember the job the Bodymotion guys have done all year and what a great job Cameron did all year. You think about where he was for his first GS race at this very place three years ago in the wet and where he is now, and it's pretty incredible. It's fun to be a part of that cycle. It's fun to be a part of the growth of Bodymotion as well as Cameron Cassels, and I'm honored these guys have let me drive with them."

Cameron Cassels, co-driver, No. 12 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman GT4:

"Trent got in the car and his best lap time was not light years of a difference from mine. For me as a driver, it tells me it doesn't matter if it was Mario Andretti or Trent Hindman; that's all the car could do today.

"I'm proud of where we finished. There was a mathematical chance of course coming into this race where we could win the championship, but realistically you had to go into it kind of fighting for dear life for P2. We just didn't have the power today. It's not sour grapes; other GS cars were in the same position; it's been a long season.

"We had some miscues early in the season that put us on our heels from Sebring on. We had some issues at Mosport and then of course Road America and VIR. When you start adding all of those up and you still come home P2, everybody on this team needs to hang their head pretty high. I'm incredibly proud of everybody.

"Today's race was kind of an extension of how I feel toward the season. I thought I put my best effort in today. In the last three or four races, starting with Lime Rock, at VIR and then here, to me I felt I stepped it up a notch. Everyone else did as well, but I'm just reflecting on my own driving. I did everything I could today. When I head home on the plane, I'm not going to sit in my seat and say, 'Well, darn it, I coulda, woulda, shoulda.' I really feel I gave it everything I could.

"I'd like to improve my restarts. But once we got rolling, my times seemed to be in line with the rest of the field. So I will be proud how I progressed during the season and proud of how the guys progressed during the season."

Devin Jones, co-driver, No. 31 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman:

"The car was pretty good in practice. We've worked really hard on trying to get it up to speed. We've lost a little bit of speed from the midpoint of the year and compared to where we were at Laguna I thought we actually had a pretty good race pace. It was tough with some of the front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive cars, which have a lot of speed right now. The MX-5s are always pretty good here just because of how the tires degrade here.

"We qualified sixth. We hung in the top five the first stint, and then Drake got in and he was right up there in the mix also. We were hoping for a shot at a top five, but we had a little bit of contact that shuffled him back a ways. Then some luck came our way there at the end and we actually picked up some spots and finished where we started in sixth.

"It was an up-and-down weekend, kind of like our season has been.  We ended the year right in the middle. We'll regroup from here and I have to thank all the Bodymotion guys for their efforts all season.  Those guys have worked really hard to get us to the track every weekend, and I have to thank Veristor.

It was great to see some of those guys coming out to support us and watch us race. I love coming to Road Atlanta because it's like my home race and it's good we got to put on a pretty good show for them, and I hope they enjoyed it. Overall we're happy and looking forward to 2018."

Drake Kemper, co-driver, No. 31 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman:

"Well we just got done with that two-hour sauna they call the Fox 220; man was it hot out there, and super intense. Luckily my training has been on point, but it was even hard for me and I've been working out two or three hours every day.

"We ended up P6, which is awesome. It's where we started, but man it was a whirlwind of a race. Devin got up towards the front at one point, handed me the car, and our strategy was absolutely perfect. It paid off well, and then I just fell back. I had a moment with another competitor in the slowest part of the track and it just let everyone go through.

"It was just hard today, but I want to thank the team and the crew for an awesome year. I know it didn't go our way and we didn't have the best year, but no one ever quit working hard and everyone kept their heart in it the whole time."

Michael Bavaro, team owner:

"It was our intention when we started the race to win the championship and the race. That's the object of everything we wanted to get done. It turned out where we were battling basically to maintain, then we lost our second place in the championship to third place, so it became a pretty heated battle on track and the drivers really came through.

Trent made a fantastic pass going into Turn 10 of the No. 60 Mustang and the No. 33 car and that got us in second [in the championship]. By one point we're second in the championship, so we'll go to the banquet tonight and be grateful for that

. Both cars finished in sixth place, I believe. So it was a good day, a good year, and a good season for Bodymotion. The team did a good job and the drivers did an excellent job. It was fun all the way around."
