Citroen C3 WRC 2018

Unveiled in mid-2016, the new Citroën C3 made an instant impact with its colourful, fresh and energetic personality, which also exudes robustness and strength.

These bold characteristics were immediately visible on the Citroën C3 WRC, which – after ten months of intensive testing – was launched at the start of 2017 to compete on behalf of Citroën in the World Rally Championship.

A decidedly innovative car, it was eagerly awaited as one of the star attractions in 2017 – a season of renewal for the WRC, with its more liberal regulations – and it quickly set about meeting these high expectations, demonstrating both performance and reliability.

With its daring exterior styling, largely achieved through extensive work in the wind tunnel on its aerodynamics, its enhanced safety features, especially to deal with lateral impacts, and its cutting-edge technologies, the car epitomizes perfectly the brand's key values: Optimistic, Human and Smart.

The technicians from the customer racing department worked tirelessly to ensure that the Citroën C3 R5 also benefited from these typically Citroën attributes. Due to go on sale in 2018, Citroën Racing's new customer racing product has racked up the miles in development testing since the end of last summer.

Entered as one of the zero cars at the Rallye du Var towards the end of last year, it also successfully came through its first proper competitive outing on the Maures mountain roads, which are considered to be among the most demanding rally stages in mainland France.

The C3 R5 – proud to be regarded as the C3 WRC's younger sister and equally powered by a 1.6-litre direct injection turbo engine – has benefited directly from all of the lessons learned throughout the 2017 season by the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team.

Its stated aim is to become the new benchmark in what is already an incredibly competitive category.
