Round 4 of the Emirates Desert Championship takes place this Friday along the Dubai-Hatta Road just before the Sharjah border in the Margham area. Temperatures have continued to drop as the season progresses as conditions become friendlier for competitors and colder for spectators.

The morning is expected to be quite cold on this weekend in January as competitors come together for the first round of competition of the new year 2018. Visibility is expected to be high, however the Round 4 of this year’s EDC will come with some challenging turns.

ATCUAE President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, commented
, “The Emirates Desert Championship is a fantastic racing series that challenges competitors to do their best.”

Ben Sulayem continued, “The EDC is a stepping stone in becoming a competitor in the international events we have coming up in March, the Dubai International Baja and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challange. We hope everyone will enjoy the race on Friday and look forward to seeing all the competitors at the next EDC in February.”

Currently, after Rounds 1-3, the top placing competitors are British national Thomas Bell in first place for Auto Overall, followed by Emirati Tamjid Abdulla and Syrian Yazan Rajla. Leaders of Moto Overall are Ross Runnalls from South Africa in first place, followed by Mohammed Al Balooshi from the UAE and Sean Gaugain also from South Africa.

The Emirates Desert Championship sits as an introduction to the much more intense international competitions where competitors are challenged on very long distance rally courses through harsh conditions of desert including very high dunes, scathing winds, scorching sun, packed plains and demanding demonstrations of endurance.

The EDCs are 2 hours timed course that competitors repeat as many times as possible before the Last Lap sign is shown. It’s a family friendly event in the desert and spectators have always been welcome to come and cheer on their favorite competitors.

The next round will be on 16 February 2018 at a location to be announced a day before the event. It will be the fifth and final round of the 2017-2018 season.
