FIA F2 Championship, Spa Francorchamps, Race Preview

Back on track at Spa-Francorchamps. The season resumes at the high-speed Spa venue, loved by the drivers for its demanding nature and unique character.

Next weekend on the Walloon circuit of Spa Francorchamps the FIA Formula 2 Championship will be back in action next weekend at the Spa-Francorchamps track for the ninth round of the season, following a three-week break needed to regain some energy after a challenging run of four events in six weekends between the months of June and July.

A few laps on the historic Belgian track will be enough to generate a strong adrenaline rush for the drivers, who will be dealing with the longest and most demanding circuit of the season. The 7.0 km track, located south of Liège, provides an impressive series of nineteen curves of different radiuses and speed, connected by long straights and ups and downs that are a feature of the green Ardennes region.

Spa-Francorchamps is unanimously considered a drivers track, as car control and courage are needed to master it. The particularly variable weather, which often alternates sunny hours and rain showers, makes the Belgian trip even more demanding. Team Trident’s Arjun Maini and Alessio Lorandi will be lining up for the first time on an F2 car at Spa.

The twenty-year-old Indian, wearing the Haas F1 colors, has been a positive feature of the first part of the season, growing up strongly. He is aiming for the first podium of the season. Maini also shown considerable potential in qualifying, where he qualified in row four or better in five of the eight races ran so far.

A noteworthy feature for a rookie. Italian teenager Alessio Lorandi will be at his second event in the category. The promising 19-year-old driver from Brescia enjoyed a brilliant debut in the previous round of the Hungaroring. In the Feature Race, he impressed with a very fast race pace. He proved he has the credentials to make a successful jump from the GP3 Series.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:

“The one at Spa is certainly one of the most challenging rounds of the season and will require our drivers, both rookies, to make a particular effort. Our technical staff worked well with them in preparation, and they are in the position to express themselves at their best.

Arjun Maini showed great potential in the first part of the season and is looking forward to continuing at the same pace. Alessio Lorandi managed his series debut well at Budapest and now aims to increase his experience. His promising debut makes me confident about his chances of doing well in this category".

GP3 Series, Spa-Francorchamps, Race Preview

In Belgium to aim for more success. Relying on four drivers all able to aim for victories, Team Trident is looking forward to impressing in the upcoming round at Spa-Francorchamps.

The Belgian track, perched among the Ardennes forest, is set to be a spectacular home to the fifth round of the 2018 GP3 Series, coming back in action after a three-week break. The historic Belgian track, among the most spectacular of the season, features corners like the Eau Rouge, Blanchimont, and Pouhon, which are among the favorites of motorsport fans all over the world.

For the technical staff of the Trident Team, making the right set-up choices will be key on a racetrack that features long straights, slope changes, and very fast corners. On the Belgian track, it is important to calibrate the aerodynamic load not to compromise top speeds. Moreover, in Spa it is always difficult to make predictions: only when the cars get on the track it becomes possible to understand the values.

The Team Trident four-car lineup has all the credentials needed to be on top again. On the Walloon track, the promising Pedro Piquet and Giuliano Alesi will aim for their second win of the season, which would allow them to make a leap forward in the overall classification and improve, respectively, the fifth and sixth position.

Twenty-four New York driver Ryan Tveter, who took third place at Silverstone, wants to fight for the podium again. On the other hand, 18-year-old German driver David Beckmann, who made his debut under the Team Trident banner in Budapest by taking an excellent fourth place in the Feature Race, aims to capture a new prestigious result.

The Iserlohn-born racer is a prospect of undoubted value. The Team Trident drivers carefully prepared the trip to Spa with their technical staff and there are all the conditions needed to see the Italian team’s cars at the top of the category.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:

“Once again, Team Trident will be able to rely on a very competitive and close-knit team at Spa-Francorchamps, with all four drivers aiming for wins.

It will be key to give a good interpretation of the track conditions in practice to be ready for qualifying, where lining-up with a good set-up can provide a decisive advantage.

The Walloon track, however, offers several areas in which successfully complete overtaking maneuvers and it will be crucial not to compromise the efficiency of the cars in the early stages of the race ".

The FIA Formula 2 Championship cars will come alive on Friday at 12:55 for the first free practice session. Qualifying is scheduled for the same day at 4.55 PM. On Saturday there will be Feature Race at 4:45 PM, while the Sprint Race is scheduled for Sunday at 10:50 AM.

The GP3 Series team will commence the action on Friday morning, with the practice session scheduled at 9:30 AM. Qualifications will run on the same day at 17:50 PM. The Feature Race will go underway on Saturday at 09:35 AM, while the Sprint Race is scheduled Sunday at 9:35 AM. As usual, all the activity on the track will be televised live by Sky Sports F1.
