M-Sport Poland and Pirelli to support next generation of Flying Finns

28.09.2018: M-Sport Poland are delighted to announce that they will extend their cooperation with the Finnish Motorsport Federation (AKK Motorsport) to support the next generation of rallying’s Flying Finns.

M-Sport Poland are delighted to announce that they will extend their cooperation with the Finnish Motorsport Federation (AKK Motorsport) to support the next generation of rallying’s Flying Finns.

The AKK Future Star Award has brought a number of names to the height of rallying – not least Teemu Suninen who currently pilots an EcoBoost-powered Ford Fiesta WRC for the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team at the highest level of competition.

M-Sport Poland have been a keen supporter of the initiative – running Emil Lindholm on the Finnish round of the FIA World Rally Championship in 2017 and continuing the successful partnership when Henri Hokkala was awarded a drive on the Finnish round of the FIA Junior World Rally Championship earlier this year.

Next year, the initiative is expanding – rebranded as the ‘Flying Finn Future Star’ program – and M-Sport Poland are delighted to increase their support too.

If the winning candidate in the SM3 class of next year’s Finnish Rally Championship pilots a Ford Fiesta, M-Sport Poland will provide 30,000 EUROS with which to contest the 2020 FIA Junior World Rally Championship (or equivalent).

The same will be said if the victor competes with Pirelli tyres – the Italian tyre giant offering a further 30,000 EUROS to contest the one-make Fiesta series on the world stage.

With the initiative launched in Finland earlier this afternoon (Friday 28 September), M-Sport Poland and Pirelli are also looking to extend similar support to other national championships.

Maciej Woda, M-Sport Poland Director, said:

“We’re delighted to continue our successful partnership with AKK Motorsport and increase our support when it comes to finding Finland’s future rally stars.

“M-Sport Poland, Pirelli and AKK Motorsport are three of the most important organisations when it comes to supporting young drivers; and it would be difficult to find a top-flight driver in the FIA World Rally Championship who has not received support from at least one of these organisations!

“We’re passionate about fostering future talent, and we’re all looking forward to discovering who the next Flying Finn will be.”

The Junior WRC calendar will be announced in October, and anyone interested in more details should visit www.juniorwrc.com.
