The season finale was an epic event. The excitement built as the smell of burnt nitromethane permeated the air at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona. And for the first time ever all four Mello Yello Champions won in the Pomona Finale.

For Steve Torrence and Tanner Gray, who both add adjusted odds from probabilities of 99 percent and 95 percent respectively to win the Mello Yello World Championship, it made perfect sense. But as of late October, Robert Hight was the probable favorite, not J.R. Todd.  The NHRA season is over, but you top betting sites will have odds and probabilities on your favorite, NASCAR, INDI, and F1 drivers.

Tanner Gray - Pro Stock

At just 19 years old, Tanner Gray became the youngest Mello Yello Pro Stock World Champion ever and now he is also the youngest after claiming the Pro Stock championship, he is the youngest season champion in NHRA history. After only two years in the drag racing game, Tanner has surpassed his Father and Grandfather in wins.

Even more impressive for Gray Motorsports, Tanner’s first race of the day at the Auto Club NHRA Finals was against his father, Shane Gray. Although he was almost a half-miler per hour slower than his dad, his RT was a whopping .002. Tanner has proven to be one of the best leavers in drag racing history.

In the second round of eliminations, Tanner faced Erica Enders and once again his leaving skills won out. Erica topped out at 211.23 against Tanners 210.73, but his .003 RT was enough to move him along.

Jason Line had difficulties in Elimination Round 3. In the end, it came down to Drew Skillman and Tanner Gray. In a tight race off the line, Gray edged Skillman out by five-thousandths of a second to win it all.

Steve Torrence - Top Fuel

In another history-making event, Steve Torrence swept all of the playoff races on his way to claiming the Top Fuel Championship. To make matters even sweeter, this was his first win at Auto Club Raceway and it came against Top Fuel’s top all-time driver, Tony Shumacher.

Matt Smith - Pro Stock Motorcycle

Back in October, Matt Smith was rated with a probability of around 65% to enter the Auto Club NHRA Finals as the Mello Yello champ. Upon facing Eddie Krawiec in the 4th Elimination Round, the two drivers had identical reaction times, but Smith hit 201.22 miles per hour to defeat Krawiec by near five-hundredths of a second.

This amazing run set a national speed record. Matt Smiths journey was a storied one. Throughout the season he had five #1 qualifiers, along with 4 victories. He pulled out three wins in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown. Now he is the three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle Champ.

J.R. Todd

Things got funny in Funny Car when Robert Hight smoked the tires and lost to Bob Tasca the 3rd in the 1st round of eliminations. This was a heaven-send for Todd, who was able to win his first Funny Car world championship. J.R. Todd and team, thanks to a little help for Bob Tasca III, won the Funny Car division in just his second year since shifting gears from Top Fuel.

The 2019 season starts in February and there is sure to be just as much excitement and straightaway drama!
