FIA F2 Championship, Abu Dhabi, Preview

Yas Marina to host highly-anticipated season finale.

The FIA Formula 2 Championship will take place next weekend on the classic track of the Emirates, with its typical marina layout that rivals Montecarlo and Singapore. The Team Trident drivers aim to end the season with a prestigious result.

The time has come for the conclusion of the FIA Formula 2 Championship season, which will run for the 12th and final round of 2018.

Almost two months after the previous round at Sochi, the battle on track is set to be very tight: the championship has not yet crowned the new champion and there are many talented drivers who grew up during the season and now want to take advantage of the last race of the season to capture a prestigious result to kickstart the work towards the next season.

This is undoubtedly the case of the two Trident drivers, both rookies. Promising Indian Arjun Maini has been a great star of the central part of the season and it is expected to confirm his potential once the action start in Yas Marina the island of Yas Marina, outside of Abu Dhabi.

The twenty-year-old from Bangalore will try to set the same tone of Monte Carlo  when he scored the second row in qualifying and the fifth at the checkered flag. Twenty-year-old Italian Alessio Lorandi has been equally promising after making his debut only in Budapest appointment. In the previous round at Sochi, he took a remarkable 7th place.

The Abu Dhabi track, designed by Hermann Tilke, is certainly one of the most iconic modern tracks of the season. Yas Marina is equipped with a lighting system that allows teams and drivers to run the qualifications and the Feature Race at sunset under artificial light.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:

"The Abu Dhabi track is very technical. Therefore it will be important for our drivers to find the right feedback from the first practice session, in order to lay the foundations for a convincing qualifying, which is a crucial requirement for achieving an important result in the race ".

Looking for more success in the beautiful frame of Yas Marina.

The star four-driver field brought on-track by Team Trident in the GP3 Series will try to close the season with an absolutely remarkable result on the Abu Dhabi track. In the first eight rounds of the season, the Milan-based team’s drivers celebrated on the highest step of the podium six times, delivering to the team led by Maurizio Salvadori the role of undisputed benchmark in the category.

On the track located on the Yas Marina island, eighteen-year-old German driver David Beckmann will chase his fourth win of the season, which would allow him to improve his fifth place in the league table.

The North Rhine teenager, who made his debut under the Trident banner only in Budapest, took three consecutive victories at Spa, Monza, and Sochi. Together with the promising German star, 20-year-old Brazilian talent Pedro Piquet aims to achieve his third win of the season, after the spectacular one captured during the Italian Grand Prix weekend.

The expectations of Ferrari Driver Academy man Giuliano Alesi are equally high. After winning the opening race of the season in Barcelona he. Was a constant presence in the small group of frontrunners. On the other hand, 24-year-old New York-based Ryan Tveter will focus on winning for the first time this year at the end of his second season with Team Trident.

The Italian squad once again praised the qualities of Ryan, which allowed him to secure a solid runner-up position in the demanding transfer of Spa Francorchamps and to show off as one of the most concrete pilots of the series.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:

"The team is headed to Abu Dhabi with the aim of achieving more success at the end of a season in which the Team Trident colors were constantly on top. We won six times with three different drivers, finding good success in the last three races. But it is not time to relax, we want to keep the guard up even in the final test! "

The FIA F2 Championship cars will be on track on Friday at 11:30 for the free practice session. Qualifications will be held later the same day at 7.00pm. The Trident Team riders will restart on Saturday  when the Feature Race is scheduled at 6:40 pm, while the Sprint Race will start on Sunday at 1:35 pm.

The cars of the GP3 Series will fire on Friday at 10:15 for the free practice session. Qualifications are scheduled in the afternoon at 3:10 pm. The Feature Race will start Saturday at 12:30, while the Sprint Race is scheduled on Sunday morning at 12:10.

As usual, all the track activity will be covered live by Sky Sports F1. Watch out for the time zone! The times are expressed in local time, which is three hours ahead of Central European Time.
