The bivouac reaches fever pitch

The big day has finally arrived for the 541 competitors cleared to start the 41st Dakar in Lima this morning! First, a jaw-dropping 247 km liaison on the Pacific coast will take them to the start of the first special. The inaugural stage will set the tone for this edition with 84 km on the dunes around Pisco

05:57 New horizons

Peugeot's withdrawal from the rally following a new triumph in 2018 leaves the car race in Peru wide open. Defending champion. Carlos Sainz, Stéphane 'Monsieur Dakar' Peterhansel and Cyril Despres, now racing for Mini, have their sights firmly set on victory, while Sébastien Loeb will be looking to stir up some trouble at the wheel of a private Peugeot. However, it is Nasser Al-Attiyah who could be in the best position to take back the throne and get Toyota the win it has been waiting for!

05:28 KTM on the defensive

KTM is going into the 2019 Dakar with 17 consecutive victories in the bag and the same three riders who brought home the bacon over the last three years. Toby Price, Sam Sunderland and Matthias Walkner are determined to extend the reign of the Austrian maker and frustrate Honda's umpteenth attempt to take the throne. The Japanese brand is pinning its hopes on Joan Barreda and Kevin Benavides, while the Yamaha factory team is counting on Adrien Van Beveren and Xavier de Soultrait to reach unprecedented heights.
