In his first professional race doubleheader race weekend at Round 1 of the 2019 SRO Motorsports America TC America Series, Texan James Walker, Jr. put on a good show and finished just off the podium in both rounds.

For Race 1 on Saturday, Walker had qualified the No. 34 Risi Competizione/Hella Pagid Brake Systems Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR in the fourth position on the grid during Friday's 15-minute qualifying session.

The start of Saturday's 2019 inaugural TCR race was delayed one lap due to the cars not being properly aligned but once it was started Walker was off smoothly.

Despite being hit from behind on Lap 2, he managed to keep the car in the top six overall and fourth in the TCR class. Despite not able to better his position in the short 15-lap, 40-minute race, for the first race of his career, he was happy to finish fourth in class and sixth overall.

Additionally, he set the third fastest lap of the entire race, which allowed him the third position on the grid overall for Race 2.

Starting on the inside of the second row for Race 2 on Sunday, Walker, The Woodlands, Texas, native, had another solid driving performance. A full course caution was displayed on the first lap but restarted on Lap 3. He continued to hunt down the front runners and kept getting faster and faster as the race progressed, finishing fourth.

On the 16th and final lap of the 40-minute race, Walker clocked not only the fastest lap of Race 2 but the fastest lap of both races with a time of 2:20.909 as he inched closer to third place. In the end he finished fourth and won the "TC Quick Shyfter Award", presented to the driver with the fastest lap of the race.

Rick Mayer, Risi Competizione Race Engineer:

"We had a really good weekend with the new car. James made huge progression. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't cooperative early so we really kind of didn't have the test time we'd hoped, but in the end, he had the fastest race lap in the second race and he's making progress. I think we're going to have a good run this year and we're glad he chose Risi Competizione to run his TCR effort this season."

James Walker, Jr., driver of the No. 34 Risi Competizione/Hella Pagid Brake Systems Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR:

"The No. 34 Hella Pagid Brake Systems Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR ran a good, strong race today. I could not be more pleased with this weekend's race results. We came in and executed everything to plan. Knowing it was our first race weekend with the new car, there would be a lot of learning. We received an immense amount of help from the manufacturer in Italy (Romeo Ferraris), who sent over three engineers for the occasion.

We managed in every single session to improve our times and improve our position and learn tremendous volumes about the car. This will prepare us wonderfully for the upcoming race at St. Petersburg. I could not be happier to be a part of the Risi Competizione team this year."

The Alfa Romeo TCR race cars are built and homologated by the renowned Milan, Italy-based Romeo Ferraris. The Team received the new car less than two weeks before the first race.

The next race will take place on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida next weekend, March 8-10, in conjunction with the inaugural race for the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series. It will be round 2 of the SRO Motorsports America TC America Series with another double header race.
