SRO MOTORSPORTS AMERICA DOUBLEHEADER AT COTA

The No. 82 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 of Anthony Lazzaro and Pierre Mulacek took home a second place and fifth place finish in the Sprint X GT Am class for the Blancpain GT World Challenge America doubleheader race weekend at Circuit of the Americas (COTA).

In the first race on Saturday, Austin, Texas' Malucek started from the sixth Am class qualifying position in the Ferrari 488 GT3. Co-driver and driving coach Lazzaro got behind the wheel at the 40-minute mark. After a long yellow shortly thereafter, the race was restarted at nearly the one-hour mark.

Lazzaro was out to prove he was back in a Risi Ferrari with no hesitations. Although he hasn't raced competitively for several years, Lazarro promptly drove like a man possessed and brought the Rosso Red Ferrari to second place at the finish of the 15-lap race.

It was a great start to the inaugural race of the 2019 Blancpain GT World Challenge series for the two bronze-level drivers.

Lazzaro, from Atlanta, Georgia, was quite familiar with the other drivers on the Race 1 podium as he had coached every single one of them through the Ferrari Corse Clienti program or as a personal driving coach.

In Sunday's race Lazzaro was the starting driver and began the race from the second class position and 14th overall. He quickly moved up; advancing to the class leader and ninth overall by the end of Lap 1.

At the 50-minute mark, the No. 82 Ferrari was called into the pits for the scheduled pit stop and driver change to Pierre Malucek. Malucek executed his drive for the remainder of the 90-minute race and brought the red Ferrari 488 home in the fifth class position under unseasonably cold and windy conditions.

Rick Mayer, Risi Competizione Race Engineer:
"The weather was certainly a novelty for the weekend. I don't think I've raced in weather this cold. It made it really difficult. We had a really good result in the first race with a podium finish, which was a positive way to start the season. We struggled a little bit in the second race, but the conditions certainly played a role in it. Hopefully we'll do some more races and continue moving forward."

Pierre Malucek, driver, No. 82 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3:
"I want to thank SRO Motorsports and Risi Competizione for an absolutely wonderful weekend. It was great to be on the podium with Anthony Lazzaro and good having him back in the car and running as the ace that he is. And I just thank everyone that ran with us for being great competitors. Thank you, Ferrari, for an absolutely fantastic car and thanks again to the crew."

Anthony Lazzaro, driver No. 82 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3:
"This is the second time Pierre and I are driving together. Last year in the World Challenge and now in the Blancpain series, both times with Risi. For me it's a homecoming of sorts because I've been with Risi for so many years. I've been associated with this team for twenty years in some capacity.

When I was younger, I drove full time for Risi. Then, I was their Ferrari Challenge coach and always taking care of even some vintage drivers, as well. To even be associated with the team and to actually drive that red Ferrari that says 'Risi Competizione' on it means everything to me.

"Pierre has given me this opportunity and, as a guy from Georgia, I can say we get along like peas and carrots. He's a really cool guy. His whole family is nice, and we certainly get along really well. I hope he decides to continue with Risi with his Ferrari and doing some more racing because he wants to learn more. He's totally got the capability to be here in this series.

"The qualifying session yesterday is the first time I've qualified a car in five years and the second race in three and a half years, but it all came back. The pinnacle was obviously getting on the podium in second place yesterday, which was fantastic. Pierre did an awesome job and we had an excellent pit stop. Obviously, the team is well versed and well-rehearsed in pit stops themselves, but we drivers also did our job well yesterday.

Today we got to lead. We led most of the race. It's unfortunate that we got hit, but still we came in the pits in second place. Unfortunately, we had just a couple of little teething problems with the driver change and pit stop today, and we ended up in fifth place, but it's all part of the learning process. The car was obviously well prepared. We are still learning about the car. We really don't have any testing under our belts, but for me this is family, it's like being home again."
