TC America @ St. Petersburg: Hurczyn and Vincent share honours

13.03.2019: FCP Euro teammates Michael Hurczyn and Nate Vincent made the most of Mason Filippi's absence from the second event of TC America at St. Petersburg.

FCP Euro teammates Michael Hurczyn and Nate Vincent made the most of Mason Filippi's absence from the second event of TC America at St. Petersburg.

While Filippi and his Hyundai Veloster N - the winners of both races in the season opener at Austin - were forced to miss the event because of logistic issues, Hurczyn and Vincent won one race apiece in their Volkswagen Golf GTI cars and jumped on top of the standings.

After setting pole position in Qualifying, Hurczyn took his and the team’s maiden win at the end of a breathtaking Race 1 in which he resisted the return of James Walker's Alfa Romeo and was victorious with a slim margin.

Vincent followed his teammate closely in the first half of the race, but under Walker's pressure, hit the back of Hurczyn's car and sent it wide. Which cost him a drive-through penalty.
Vincent made up from the disappointment with a flag-to-flag victory in a Race 2 that was disrupted by the safety car following Walker's massive crash.

The Alfa Romeo man was chasing the leading duo of Vincent and Hurczyn when lost his car and crashed. The safety car was deployed and the race resumed for two final laps. Vincent retained his leading margin, while Hurczyn blocked an attempt from Bryan Putt at T1. Putt finished third, just like in Race 1, encoring his win in the DSG cup.

TC America will resume for rounds 5 and 6 at Virginia International Raceway on April 27/28.

Race 1

1. M. Hurczyn (FCP Euro, Volkswagen Golf GTI) 30 laps
2. J. Walker (Risi Competizione, Alfa Romeo Giulietta) 1.105
3. B. Putt (ROWE Racing, Audi RS 3 LMS DSG) 14.346

Race 2

2. M. Hurczyn (FCP Euro, Volkswagen Golf GTI) 1.733
3. B. Putt (ROWE Racing, Audi RS 3 LMS DSG) 5.605

Championship points

1. Hurczyn 76 pts; 2. Vincent 70; 3. Filippi 50; 4. Putt 48; 5. Walker 39
