Mit einer Premiere eröffneten die FIA World Rallycross Championships die Saison 2019. Zum ersten Mal gastierten die RX-Teams für einen Weltmeisterschaftslauf in Abu Dhabi, genauer gesagt auf dem luxuriösen Yas Marina Circuit, wo auch die Formel 1 jährlich ihre Runden dreht.



Mit dabei – als einziges österreichisches Team – war wieder die STARD-Crew aus Großenzersdorf rund um Teamchef Manfred Stohl. Mit dem Lettten Janis Baumanis und dem Norweger Pal Try hatte STARD zwei Ford Fiesta RX Supercar im Einsatz. Baumanis absolviert wieder die gesamte Weltmeisterschaft unter STARDscher Teamführung, Try ist nach Abu Dhabi auch für die Rennen in Spa und in Lettland geplant.



Dass Janis Baumanis dann gleich im ersten Auftritt nach der langen Pause über den Winter im Finale der besten sechs WM-Piloten stand, war für STARD-Teamchef Manfred Stohl ein willkommener Anlass, großes Lob auszusprechen. „Janis ist super in die neue Saison gestartet. Er hat eine starke Leistung gezeigt und sich den verdienten Applaus der Fans abgeholt. Mit seinem fünften Platz ist er nun in der WM Dritter.


Das ist für ihn und für uns eine Auszeichnung, aber auch eine Bestätigung für die tolle Arbeit des Teams in den letzten Wochen und Tagen. Nach der Winterpause ist das immer ein komisches Gefühl. Bei einem vollends neu überarbeiteten Auto ist immer das Risiko dabei, dass irgendetwas nicht so läuft wie es soll.



Aber es hat alles gepasst, nach einer kleinen Umstellung von gestern auf heute sogar nahezu perfekt. Wir sind mit den Rundenzeiten voll bei der Musik dabei. Das beweist, dass unsere Ingenieure einen wirklich tollen Job gemacht haben. Ich bin sehr, sehr stolz auf das ganze Team.“
