Martins wins in Monaco, Collet on podium; further success in France

05.06.2019: Renault Sport Academy Driver Victor Martins clinched victory in race one and took second in race two in the Formula Renault Eurocup in Monaco, as he leads the way in the Drivers’ Championship.

Renault Sport Academy Driver Victor Martins clinched victory in race one and took second in race two in the Formula Renault Eurocup in Monaco, as he leads the way in the Drivers’ Championship.

Caio Collet stood on the Eurocup podium for the first time after his third place in race one, before finishing fourth in race two.

Renault Sport Affiliate Driver Leonardo Lorandi retired from race one, but recovered strongly in the second outing by securing eighth place.

In France for round four, Victor picked up two third places to continue his lead in the championship, while Caio finished fifth and fourth to remain top rookie. Leonardo didn’t score points in sixteenth and eleventh.

Victor Martins:
“What an emotional weekend in Monaco! It was my greatest race weekend in single-seaters. We were fastest in every session and we won our first race of the season, which I want to dedicate to my team who have worked so hard for that result. We’re leading the championship after the two third places in France as well, but the journey is long and the hard work needs to be continued.”

Caio Collet
: “The Monaco weekend was good and we had strong pace every time we went on track. In qualifying we were in the mix for pole position right up until the final lap and in the race. We achieved our first podium of the season in race one after a really strong race. Race two was a bit disappointing as we had the potential to fight with the top two, but Monaco is a very tricky place to overtake. We scored decent points in France too, which is good for the championship.”

Leonardo Lorandi:
“It was a pleasure to drive around Monaco but, of course, it was not easy as it was my first time there. The weather didn’t help and qualifying was complex with mixed conditions. In race one, I had to stop after contact on lap four and race two was quite standard where we had strong pace and gaining confidence on every lap but overtaking was almost impossible! It was disappointing not to score at Paul Ricard, but we’ll move on from that.”
