Maxime Potty: “A bit like being at home”

05.06.2019: Maxime Potty has no time to be bored just now. A mere ten days after leaving the Hockenheim paddock, the young Belgian will start the next TCR Europe and TCR Benelux meeting on Friday. But this third date will have a very special flavour!

Maxime Potty has no time to be bored just now. A mere ten days after leaving the Hockenheim paddock, the young Belgian will start the next TCR Europe and TCR Benelux meeting on Friday. But this third date will have a very special flavour!

“This will be the only race of the season to be held in Belgium,”explains the 19-year-old.“And you have no idea how much I look forward to going to Spa-Francorchamps! I love the circuit and I have always performed well there. It feels to me a bit like being at home. Last year, I was on the podium twice in my first season in TCR Europe and I also remember a crazy comeback in the pack when I was competing in TCR Benelux."
After a first unsuccessful weekend in Hungary, Maxime rectified the situation extremely well in Hockenheim with a first podium finish this year and a 6thplace.“Needless to say, I hope to continue on this road,”smiles the Team WRT driver.

“My Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR should perform well at Spa and I will also have the opportunity to compare my data with Ashley Sutton, a former BTCC champion who will be competing this weekend in his first race with Team WRT. Having a second Golf in the team can only be positive because we can work differently on the settings. That will give us an uplift. So I am confident before starting this very important meeting of the season.”

Maxime knows that it will be on Saturday from 09.30 that a major part of the weekend will be played out. “Although Spa-Francorchamps is a circuit where it is possible to overtake, it will be important to perform well in qualifying, in order to start in front," he says. "I hope that everything will come together at the right time. I have often been on the podium at Spa, but never on the highest step. And I have to admit, I dream about that...”
Does it not mean more pressure than usual for Maxime? “No, because the pressure is still there and I always want to give it my all,” says the driver from Hamoir. “What I want to do this weekend is to have as much fun as possible. The atmosphere in the team is fantastic, I am well surrounded and I like my Golf GTI TCR... Everything is in place for me to have fun. And, if I do, then the results will follow!”

After qualifying practice, on Saturday from 09.30, the first race will take place at 13.50. The second race will start on Sunday at 12.00 (with the Top 10 from qualifying reversed on the grid). For fans of Maxime who cannot make it to Spa-Francorchamps, both races will be shown on RTBF's Auvio platform (
