The sixth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship will be held at the Austrian track of Spielberg and Team Trident boasts an excellent tradition at the location. Giuliano Alesi and Ralph Boschung, who both had the chance to climb up to the Austrian track's podium, will aim at increasingly high goals.

Only seven days after the round in France at Le Castellet, the cars of the FIA Formula 2 Championship will be re-fired in Austria for the second straight weekend of action. This time, the series will run on the ups and downs of the Red Bull Ring, a circuit with a long tradition in motorsport. With the round on the classic track located in Styria, the calendar enters its most heated phase. The circuit, measuring 4.318 km, got back to the Formula 1 calendar in 2014. The Red Bull Ring has two fast sectors and a third one, the final, which is slower and more technical. The straights are particularly short and, due to the limited size of the road, traffic problems often occur in qualifying.

It will, therefore, be important to seize the moment and choose the right strategies even in qualy. Three sharp decelerations will definitely stress the braking system. Almost every corner is right-hand, but the most challenging are the two to the left in the central part of the circuit.

Last but not least, strong braking and re-acceleration require cars to have good traction. A final note concerns the smooth road surface, which generates limited wear. However, the temperatures are expected to be particularly high, adding a little bit of unknown. The Team Trident drivers, given the back to back run featured on the calendar, did not have time to rest from the fatigue on French soil. Upon returning from Paul Ricard, drivers immediately had to concentrate on the following weekend.

At Spielberg, Ralph Boschung will try to shake off a negative weekend in which he failed to collect points mainly due to a technical problem in qualifying and an accident in the first meters of the Feature Race, which forced him to start from the bottom grid the following day.

A pity, given that the potential of the Swiss racer was seeming very convincing. Boschung won a GP3 Series race in 2016 at the Red Bull Ring. For what concerns 19-year-old driver Ferrari Driver Academy man Giuliano Alesi, the Frenchman broke the ice by seizing his first point of the season (and in Formula 2) at home. On Austrian soil, further growth is expected from the promising second-generation racer, who gained a convincing second place in the 2017 GP3 Series at Spielberg.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager

“In terms of results and pace, Team Trident always had an excellent record at Red Bull Ring. We will aim to give continuity to the positive trend we have had on the Styrian circuit and we will give our 100 per cent as usual. We want to allow our drivers to be among the protagonists of the weekend and bring home the points we missed in the first part of the season”.

In the previous round at the iconic Paul Ricard, Team Trident took the second and third step of the podium with Pedro Piquet. The goal for the coming weekend at Red Bull Ring can only be to improve and secure the first win of 2019!

An extremely positive weekend like the one experienced by Team Trident last weekend can only lead to very positive feelings ahead of next weekend when the series will be back in Spielberg. The goal of the Milan-based outfit is to keep the momentum of Paul Ricard. In France, the team's cars got a second and a third place, and really impressed with a great set-up that allowed the drivers to be very competitive even in the usually decisive final stages of the race.

Team Trident is, therefore, aiming for its first win of the year at the scenic venue located on the Styrian mountains. 20-year-old Brazilian Pedro Piquet, who took P2 last year at the Austrian track, will rely on the second and third place finishes of at Le Castellet: he was back on levels of absolute excellence.

Niko Kari, who had secured the podium at the inaugural event in Barcelona, missed a shot at the podium in France only because of a drive-through in the first race, followed by a suspension issue. An episode that forced him to start from the back in Sunday's heat. It must be noted that Kari took his second podium in the European Formula 3 championship in 2016 at Red Bull Ring. Devlin DeFrancesco had an impressive showing too in France.

The 19-year-old from Ontario delivered a solid performance, especially in the first heat when he put together an exciting comeback. The ingredients for another successful weekend for Team Trident are definitely in place as the preparatory work was short but accurate. Now it's time for the track to provide answers!

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager

“Last weekend our cars showed a remarkable level of performance at Paul Ricard, remaining again among the frontrunners for the whole time. Piquet ended his best weekend since he joined Team Trident, and Kari and Defrancesco also proved highly competitive. Now we are focusing on Spielberg with even more ambitious goals and to aim for our first win of 2019 ".

The engines of the FIA Formula 2 Championship's cars will start on Friday at 1:00 pm for the practice session. Qualifying is scheduled for the same day at 4.55pm. The Feature Race will be at 4.45pm, while the Sprint Race is scheduled for Sunday at 11.00am.

The FIA Formula 3 Championship cars will star on Friday morning, with the free practice session scheduled at 9:35 am. The qualifications will be on the same day at 17:50. Saturday will be time for Race 1 at 10:25, while Race 2 is scheduled for Sunday at 09.35. As usual, all the activity on track will be covered live by Sky Sports F1.
